I don't count my stitches but I think I'm pretty fast at making a stitch. I don't get many done at a time, though, because I cannot do just one thing at a time. I've got the TV on or am in a conference call. One time I was just too late signing up for an all-day conference so I called in from my couch and stitched all day. It actually helped me pay attention because I wasn't distracted by emails and such. Had I been at the conference I would probably not have heard so much because in order to pay attention I must be doing something with my hands.

I don't stab the fabric but use the other method the name of which I cannot remember. I put the needle in the top and then through the bottom and back up in one movement. And I don't use a hoop or frame. I'm also not super worried about tension, although I do try somewhat to make them even.

I have a 14.5cm x 18cm that I've been working on for 4 years and a 44cm x 33.7cm that I've had going for over 5.

I think that is called the sewing method. I'm a stabber lol and I find I go much quicker when angry, I guess the stabbing is soothing to me plus I use a hoop. I have these two sided needles so that you don't have to flip it all the time and you keep one hand about and below at all times but you need a stand and I don't have one.

A 2-sided needle sounds like a recipe for blood all over your fabric. I already stab myself enough when just one end is sharp(ish)!

LMAO I never actually thought about that fact. I bought them realized how they were used and just threw them in my tote with my cross stitching stuff.

Remember that scene from Fight Club, where the boss comes over and points at the cross-stitch on Jack's desk and asks, "Is that your blood?" and Jack replies, "Some of it."? :P

So...what you're saying is the cool kids are all bleeding all over their stitching? I can manage that. I almost bled on mine today because I didn't notice that the back of my hand had gotten so dry that the skin had cracked and was bleeding. I don't see any blood, though, so I think I'm good.

As for the topic of the thread, I counted today and I stitched 65 full stitches in 30 minutes. I was a bit anxious, though, so maybe that added to my speed. I was taking a break from working because I was beginning to feel a deep loathing for a set of documents.
