I wanted to comment before on your Christmas cards but had to come up with the right words to relate my feelings towards it. You know the Christmas cards you made got me remembering a scene from a movie called "The Namesake", its about a family from India that immigrates to America, the film is about their life, each of them together, but mostly centering around the son, Gogol. Its a very nice movie, check it out if you like a good drama with that will stir some emotions. Anyway, there's this one part where his mother Ashima is at home at the table hand-making and addressing cards much as you have done, not cross-stitched, but still all crafty and personalized, and she was relaxed and you knew that she was enjoying making them. This is what its about I feel, hand-made, real thought put into it, and its not accompanied by the overused phrase "Its the thought that counts." yet most of the time there was very little thought put into it to make it count for anything, other than to say you sent, they got, gotta do it all again next year, 'sigh'

I've never gotten into cards at all, don't like getting them really and especially don't like picking them out. What I never liked is the lack of sincerity, prewritten words that someone else wrote, and most of the time people just pick out anything or do the easy route and send out a whole bunch of generics, saying its the thought that counts, but to me its always felt more like a duty than true caring. No work was put into it and very little effort in picking them out. One phrase that I hear often from others (especially around Christmas time, since I work retail as a cashier) is "I have to send out Christmas cards.", and in most of their voices I can that this is something that is troublesome, time consuming work, they don't really want to do it, its just something they have to do, get it over with until next time. What I like here about your Christmas cards, they show true caring, and I do hope the receivers of them understands how much you care that you didn't just go out and by a cheapy or box of same card for everyone with a quick Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday or simply just signing and sending the bulk off as quickly as possible, afterall you got more important things to do with your time kinda deal, nope, you took the time to put love into them, making them with your own hands, each personalized uniquely.

Anyway, my thoughts and feelings on the matter of cards, for those that do the whole cheap quick thing, my words aren't meant to offend nor make anyone feel guilty, I think most people do it this way, blame that on society as a whole, the fast paced world we live in, too much to do so little time to do it kinda thing. We're all guilty of it in some form or other, not just greeting card related. Just felt these hand-made Christmas cards needed more credit as they are certainly deserving of such, and even though we have no control over how the receive will receive these, hope goes into them cherishing them instead of soon after the holiday is over toss them in a box to be forgotten or worst trashed.

I use them to try and put down in words how much those people mean to me, I like making cards, and only do so for my close family and friends. Even if I don't make them I try get blank cards so I can write a personal message thanking them for being them and how much they mean to me. I try and get them as personal as I can, much harder on those rare occaisions I buy them, it can take me literally all day trying to chose one. so Yeah I much prefer handmade cards, we used to draw cards as kids, I might do that next year for a break from cross stitch ;)

I haven't seen that film, I'll certainly keep an eye out for it, sounds good.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, interesting and appreciated. :D

Ooh, that's a lovely butterfly. I really like the combination of different techniques. Excellent work on all the other pieces too. The number of colors in the Super Mario Galaxy piece is just crazy.
