Lileya and BMH's Phantasy Star IV Project

I did a couple of hours on Saturday night, but didn't do much because watching stuff and going for snacks periodically eats into stitching time!

So here's what I'm wondering, how on earth do you do it all, BMH?! You're working on this, 2 or more challenge projects, charity quilt square, gifts, and I don't even know what else?! How do you prioritize which ones to work on and when?

Seriously though, once I get going it's not difficult to keep it up! Especially if there's something else going on, like a dvd/blu-ray or whatever. Lately my sister has been playing through Silent Hill 4 again and while she does that I watch and stitch and we shout at the tv

How do you prioritize which ones to work on and when?

It depends on lots of things. Like how much time I have and my mood and energy. I've been having a lot of health probs lately so prioritizing is key to getting anything done.
More important things like gifts usually are done first, also things with deadlines like the challenges. After that, it's personal projects like this PSIV one - usually I choose which to do by asking my daughter! And I cycle through my projects, so that they don't get too tedious. It's nice sometimes to put one down, have a cup of tea and then pick up something different.
I think the real trick is to know how much you want to get done on a particular project when you set about working on it. I always try to tell myself to do a certain block of colour, stitch until X time, or maybe I'll set myself an amount of stitches to reach on that project for the day.

Ok, I've never used evenweave and so looking at it, I'm not exactly sure what it is and how it's different from aida. Can you enlighten me?
Also, Lileya, I see you have a blue line of some sort on your project? Is that like gridding or something? And how have you done that so that you can remove it later? Is there another way to grid on your fabric?

It's shocking how many people haven't heard of the Phantasy Star series, considering PSI was one of the early pioneers of RPGs. Many of its innovative elements are still used in RPGs today! It was one of if not the first console JRPG to be translated into English. It was also one of the first games to feature a female lead and one of the first real story oriented games released in the west. And PSIV was the pinnacle of the series for many. A truly fantastic game, even now.
OK, I have to stop before I hit the character limit, because I could talk Phantasy Star all day!

Woven fabrics like aida and linen are technically evenweaves. I just say 22ct evenweave rather than use its usual name, hardanger, because then I'm just inviting yet more questions! If you're interested, hardanger is a type of embroidery from Norway, usually white thread on white evenweave, although modern peeps are doing all kinds of fabulous things. I'd recommend having a google about it, you'll see some wonderful work

It definitely made sense! I guess it's just astounding because I am putting so much of my energy into getting my 2nd entry for the challenge done on time that I couldn't imagine having time for other projects too! As you said, I think it would be fun to work on a couple projects at a time to avoid getting bored or worn out on one of them Once I get a better feel for how long it takes me to do certain projects, I don't think I'll be so worried about getting things done, and can have a clearer understanding of what I can work on when I want to.

Still, it's cool we're both doing this in same time as it really motivates me to work really hard on it! I'm a little bit competitve so I work super hard in hope to catch up with you! It's been keeping me really busy, which is great because I have a really stressful presentation to do for work in front of 80-100 people next Tuesday, so time flies and I don't have time to dwell on my stress!

It's simply a floss I loosely stitched around the borders of my project that I will be able to remove once I'm done. It's satin floss so it might look bizarre on the picture. I go 5 squares over, 5 squares under, 5.... I saw Ishtar did this in the Charity Quilt 2013 thread and I thought it was a really great idea and used the same trick!

A good trick I am using for this project though is a disappearing ink pen. Instead of having to look on my pattern every 2 minutes, I trace with the pen the area I need to stitch. The pen disappear really quickly though (like 2 hours), so I trace a small area at a time. It has saved me a lot of time: once I trace the area, I can concentrate strickly on stitching!

Agreed. PSIV is an amazing game, the best RPG of the SNES/Genesis generation consoles IMHO. Much better than FFIV/VI, and I'm not saying this because I hated FFIV/FFVI because I absolutely loved FFVI!
