I started on violin as a kid; I played in a youth orchestra for a year. The instrument never really agreed with me, though. Did a little time in piano hell - enough to appreciate it as a tool for composition, but again, it wasn't my style. These days it's off-and-on guitar (I have a classical, and my daughter has a 3/4-size classical and an electric) and mountain dulcimer, both of which I've been hacking at for the past sixteen years or so, to little avail.
Mostly hibernating here. Find me on Twitter @rmdcade.

Wow, everyone plays classical instruments! I play guitar and bass guitar, and am in the process of acquiring a drum set! I'm a rocker at heart!

I played French horn. Piano was forced on me when I was younger, but it never stuck, and I tried bass guitar but that was unsucessful also.

One instrument I would love to pick up is the bass. Not electric, but the big wooden one. ^_^ I love jazz and that's the part I'd love to play. I tried jazz piano once. It just didn't make sense. But a jazz base line? THAT makes sense.

Someone once told me, you either understand the music or you don't. If you understand it, you can play it. If you don't understand it, you'll never really play it. And it's SO true!

in 6th grade we had to chose and instrument to play for a whole year so i played the Guitar, but only for one year. later tried to learn the Piano, but could not find my way around learning nodes.

I have always dreamed of learning either Violin or Cello. :D

When I was in middle school, I played the flute but that only lasted as long as it had to. Problem with me is that I get very nervous when performing/presenting/talking in front of people. With the flute, that translates very badly into wavy, quivering notes. It was terrible.

I grew up playing the organ and still would if my sister hadn't stolen it.

Now I have a guitar and really need to get back to it! I bought it a few years ago but between all my other hobbies, I find it hard to find time to play.

When I was younger I played recorder, ukulele, panpipes, but mostly piano.

I'd love to get back into piano but we don't have the space for one, although I nearly bought one I saw in Oxfam for 150 anyway. I settled for teaching myself guitar instead, but really need more practice.

I took 2 years of piano in junior high, then picked it up again in college to round out my arts requirement (I was a science major). I have been in various choirs ever since 2nd grade kid's holiday chorus at church. I am currently singing with the Chicago Bar Association chorus (still soprano after all these years). This season we are singing Rachmaninoff's Cherubic Hymn, Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music, some Copland, some Hadyn, and some Bruckner (lovely pieces, all).
My husband and I recently (finally) got a starter electric guitar (a Gibson Maestro) so that we can play (and learn!) Rocksmith with our own instrument (we were borrowing our friends' guitars prior - there were actually many to choose from as our friends are very musically inclined). I am also known to play a mean Djembe and little brown jug when the drum circle gets together.
So - anyone want to jam out sometime?
Current projects:

Yeah, on the clarinet - it certainly does work its way into jazz. Benny Goodman anyone?

Although I prefer my clarinet in swing bands.

Oh, and Rhapsody in Blue for the win baby! (Gershwin rocks!)
