Half stitch?

I was reading about Blink190's Zelda title screen and I was wondering what he meant by half stitch. He's only using his camera phone, so I can't really tell... but I am assuming that this means he is only stitching /'s instead of a full X? I want to confirm this. It seems plausible since he says he uses all six strands. And it seems like it would take up a lot less time.

You've got it spot on. Half Stitch uses all six strands of cotton and you make / stitches instead of X stitches. I've not done it myself, but I would imagine it would use more thread than cross-stitch, but as you said it would take less time.

You don't need to use all 6 strands. It greatly depends on the size aida you use. Experiment and see what you come up with.

But yeah, half stitching for me at least, is just the / and not the \. And I use all 6 strands, but for money purposes, or depending on the look you want, 3, 4, or 5 also work too.

I've used half-stitches on backgrounds a lot. If you want your image to fade into the background gradually, do half-stitches, first with several strands, then with fewer strands as you go. Finish off with half-stitches with just one strand of thread, and do the edge of the area unevenly (um, so you leave empty squares between stitches). This works great for clouds, fog, smoke, anything you want to make ethereal-looking.

Hey Blink, what count fabric do you use when you do half stitch? I've been trying it out on 18 count using 6 strands and my wrist is aching already.

Hmmmm..... your wrist should never hurt while your stitching!! It is does -- take a break!!
I damaged my wrist stitching too much. It took 3 years for me to heal from it!! If you are experiencing any pain..... see a doctor!!!!
