Hello,

First, as it's my first time posting here, I'd like to thank you for the patterns I've been using in the last month or so, since I started stitching.
Second, I'm not sure I'm asking it in the appropriate place, as what I need is not exactly the finished pattern. It would be great, yes, but I believe I can get KG-Chart to do it, IF...
The problem is the particular shade of green used on the wicked witch. Going through the DMC colours KGchart offers, nothing seems suitable. Live enough, strong enough, 'neony' enough. What are my options? Which green thread would you use in this case? also, what about non-DMC threads? or maybe if I combined a yellow and a green strands together...? Does that even work?

Hello and welcome

Glancing through my assorted threads, DMC 906 and 581 are fairly vivid. Otherwise best I can suggest is going and staring at all the threads in the shop for a while, thats generally how I pick my colours

DMC do the stranded metallic threads that you can blend with the normal stranded cotton, that might give the extra pop you want. They also do a satin range which I would imagine would give a shinier finish.

Thank you for the answers. DMC 906 does seems a bit more lively, at least on my computer screen.
(From other fields, I learned long ago not to really trust computer colour displays...)

Several followup questions:
A. How does it with the blending of colours? is a new colour created, or does it appear to be a mixture, even to the naked, untrained, eye? Especially if I'm adding metallic thread.
B. How would you estimate how much thread you need to buy? Supposed KG tells me I have 2000 ct of a certain colour. a quick calculation brought me to around 21Meters for 12ct aida. Am I close? Too much? Too little?

What's the stitch count? for example 100x100 stitches? Well whatever the count divide that by the ct of aida to get inches and then from there you can convert to meters.


so for instance a 100x100 stitch count design will be approximately 7.14 inch by 7.14 inches....so you would need like 2 to 3 inches on all sides for framing and wahtnot so you're looking at bare minimum a 11.5 inches of fabric on each direction.

This method works for any stitch count and fabric count. I really don't knw the metric system on the top of my head cause I live in the states but maybe someone else can make the conversion for you if you're having issues with it.

And as far as mixing metallics and blending them it depends. If you get 2 that are really close in color one sparkly and one not the sparkle just really catches the light. But say if you blend a purple and green....you're gonna get an overall marbled effect. But I will say sometimes it's really cool easpecially if you do it on purpose!

Hey! When you've made up the pattern, can you please post it? I love 'Wicked' and just finished a big project so I'm looking for something new to do!

I think I did something like this for the background....but not exactly positive....I just alternated directions of the 5 x5 squares as shown and it ended up with that kind of swirly pattern. And i kind of just made a box around her but you could always continue the box to make it fit a certain size like say the entirety of a 4x6 frame.

It's all up to you....but if you are going to do gold like i did... I would suggest getting a spool of the dmc light gold

or you could go really fancy with some thread I got recently. It's made by sulky and it's a sparkly holographic type.

It's technically a blending filament...so you'll need about 3 to 4 strands to make it look about like 2 strands of dmc. Sulky I can only find at joannes at a reasonable price. You can also get the other one by dmc at joannes. The sulky is with like all the regular sewing threads and notions! there's tons of brands that you could use for cross stitch as well! My husbands hates it when I go to joanns cause he knows I'm gonna spend $$$$$$$$!
