This is probably extremely ignorant of me, but if they're just going to back pay you anyway...why can't they just pay you now......?

Seems to me that the ignorance is entirel on the part of the obstructionist party. :(

In a good news update, my spouse's gradmother showed zero signs of cancer at a follow-up scan late last week! Did you know there's an almost Star Trek full-body scan which can detect cancer cells because only those cells will accept a certain kind of isotopic marker? Truly, the future is wondrous.

Shutdown officially ended tonight! Now I have to wake up super early to drive in so my spouse can bring casework home. *sigh* But we're getting back pay, in all likelihood, so I can't complain.

... Which technically makes this post off-topic. HERE COMES THE BANHAMMER

I'm glad they finally came to an "agreement." Hopefully when they do this all over again in January things are a little easier :(

So after what seems like a long hiatus, here is my story of woe (I promise it won't be too long). 1. My grandfather continues to struggle with his weak heart and has had a series of mini-strokes and heart attacks because it is just too dangerous to operate. We, as a family, have been cleaning out and making his house ready for sale as he had transferred to assisted living last year. There is now a schism in my family because my one uncle is a "donkey" and refuses to help at all because they didn't include him in initial plans. 2. My cousin is now going through a rough divorce with a guy we all thought we knew. He took us all for the proverbial ride....hiding where his money is going, lying when asked where it went, blaming her for not having a better job to help whatever habit this seems to be feeding and then to top it off, doesn't want to see his 4 year old son on his days off. She and her son can luckily stay with her parents but the rest of the family is making sure the little guy is taken care of at little to no cost so that she can take more hours. 3. I thought, maybe, I would have some wonderful news for both sides of my family (and here) to share by US Thanksgiving (that would be Nov 27 this year)....that we were expecting a little gamer. Alas, it was not to be. Without getting into too many gory details, when I went in for a 2nd and then 3rd ultrasound at what was supposed to be week 8, the little bean was only measuring at 6.3 weeks and had no heartbeat. Needless to say, we were crushed. My body didn't figure things out until this past weekend which was better than the alternative I would have faced (drugged induced miscarriage) had nothing happened until the 31st - it still sucks. The one shining light in all this was getting my swap package the day after ultrasound 3 (I will be posting pics in swap thread shortly). So to Lord Libidan - thank you! Thank you! 1000 times thank you. When we do, finally, have a little gamer to celebrate - I guarantee it will have a place of honor in their room. I am still healing, body and spirit but my renewed stitching on the gift for my swapee has definitely helped that along.

So sorry to hear about all your problems, BooChocoBoom. I, too, have an uncle in the family (well, he and his whole family) which makes things difficult for the rest of us concerning some of the things with my grandparents. And I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your little one. *hugs*

My whining will pale in comparison, but as I was ironing my swap pieces to get them ready to finish up, my iron started to make popping sounds and started to smoke. Now my living room smells like melted plastic. I have no idea what I did, but I only ever iron cross stitch pieces, so perhaps it had something to do with being in storage for awhile....

Sorry to hear all that BooChocoBoom, truly a crappy hand to be dealt and far too much at one time for any person to deal with, but I send many positive vibes your way and I hope dearly that everything turns around for you soon :)

Did your gift survive Kareesh?

So sorry to hear of your woes, Boo. Sounds like some very trying and difficult times. I hope you and your family stay strong and I'll be thinking of you :)

People may have noticed I've been a lot less active on Sprite Stitch lately. I've been dealing with severe depression (again) and generalised anxiety disorder (again), this episode is coming up to two years long. I can't sleep or even get through a day without medication. Actually I'm being referred to a psychiatrist for the second time this year because my meds aren't improving my conditions. The first time was for my hallucinations - I hear clear and regular voices, I see shadows of people move around me and other strange things. Oh and my memory is terrible too, so if anyone's asked me for something and I haven't got back to you I recommend giving me a PM poke! :)
Accompanying my medical problems I have trouble at home - my brother (who lives with me) and I don't get along, he refuses to help with any of the costs of home and because of that I sometimes go without food and things so that I can feed my daughter. I've made it clear that he is to GTFO (couldn't think of a better phrase) but I'm largely ignored. He's threatened me with physical violence over it and despite his terrible attitude and behaviour the rest of my family will not help me and he continues to live in my house.
Added to all this is the recent news that my dad has lung cancer, and my stepdad did have bladder cancer but thankfully that has gone into remission after treatment. My dad is currently undergoing some treatment for his illness.

And that's why I haven't been so active with my stitching and in general. Thanks for listening, everyone. :)
