Here in the UK one of our major supermarket chains (Tesco) has recently put an American food section in each of their shops.

I can't comment on what's in Norway, but if it's similar to France/Germany/Spain, it'll be Nestlé stuff, which includes Mars, Twix, etc...

Bars like Payday, anything with Peanut Butter (Reese's, M&Ms), Butterfingers, none of those are readily available in Europe.

I would suggest asking him to bring back something from Norway, European chocolate is totally different to American!

I second this! chocolates made here in america are usually overladen with sugar since companies think that is what the markets want, and usually it is in the form of corn syrup which tastes totally different from actual sugar.

in my county (union) we have alot of hispanic immigrants, so alot of our convenience stores carry drinks and candy made with sugar rather than corn syrup (a by product of sugar being more expensive during WW2, so companies put research into corn syrup production), and the taste difference is noticeable. i love getting the imported glass bottles of coca cola from mexico since they have a little more bite than american made coca cola in the plastic bottles. even cola from canada tastes different; alot less sweet than what you get from the states.

if your relative has grown up with our sweets, I'm sure anything that you send him will taste more like home than what he has been able to find across the "pond".

These are pretty common over here.
Twizzlers, Paydays, Butterfingers, York Peppermint Patties, Tootsie Rolls, Candy Corn, Twix, Pixy Stix...
These are not at all common. Some of these I've never seen, some are only in specific shops that cater to the ex-pat community, but its always god-awful expensive.

Tbh, when I get my mom to send me stuff, its not candy- its things like Kraft Mac & Cheese, green chile, Quaker instant oatmeals, grits and Girl Scout cookies (although good luck finding some at this time of the year).

I know another American gets her mom to send her cereals (like Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms- any of the sugary ones). Anything that has a high sugar content often gets hit by the sugar import taxation over here, so its godawful expensive for things like those and the candies unless there's a European distributor. Its possible that Norway has a similar tax, which would affect the kinds of things he can find.
