Also, forgot to add - my spouse is an employee of the US federal government, so when the government shutdown hits in *checks watch* three hours and forty-five minutes, we're out of work for an indeterminate period.

I'm so sorry, RMDC. I know that the government has already shut downMy husband is active duty Army and my father is a paper pusher for the federal government. He's already made plans that if things get bad enough to come live with us. I sure hope these lunkheads kick it in gear soon...
Yowch. Well, we're two sailors in the same boat, and not a paddle between us.rockinwithrammstein wrote:My husband is active duty Army and my father is a paper pusher for the federal government. I feel your pain, yo.Truut wrote:now i see why most people just have one password for every freaking thing. oy.
That is awesome! Although, I can see the following scenario playing out:RMDC wrote: On the subject of passwords, this cool Instructable advises using a spare outlet, phone jack, or cable jack to create a super-secret safe... perhaps a place to store a list of passwords?
Well, at least they passed a bill providing back pay for our time out of commission. Of course, that doesn't help us make the rent payment now, but it's definitely not unappreciated. My spouse is itching to get back to work. Aside from the fact that she enjoys her job, she also feels poorly about essentially getting paid for not working for the past couple of weeks. As a general rule, and in contrast to what certain politicians are pushing as an attempted stereotype, federal employees have a work ethic just like any other category of human. I mean, the shutdown is no vacation by any stretch - the stress alone has contributed to our health care bills in the coming year, I'm sure - and it feels like anything but paid time off, but that's how it's being spun in several prominent media outlets.Truut wrote:P.S I hope the toddlers on capitol hill grow up soon so you guys can get back to work!
thats what bugs me about some of the media (mostly fox noise and them calling this a "govt slimdown"). its not like you guys can call up the people you pay bills to and say "hey, we work for the govt and we don't have the money now but we will. . .so can you push back our billing dates a couple of weeks?" she's basically lost her job in a sense, and for that to happen because 40 people in the house don't agree is not right at all. in my eyes, my job as a framer at hobby lobby is easy compared to ANY job your wife has with the govt, and i really wish there was something i could do to help you guys. i feel the need to apologize for my good for nothing NC house rep siding with the tea party even though I didnt vote for him this go around.RMDC wrote:Well, at least they passed a bill providing back pay for our time out of commission.
