Hey guys, I was just wondering if anybody has experimented with metal and either resin or enamel. I saw some Pokemon badge pins, and thought it would be awesome if I could somehow make some, my own way. I've never even ventured into this area of crafting though, and I'm not sure if this is within the scope of Sprite Stitch (it does say 'stitch' after all, but I've seen pictures and 3D models on the blog), so I figure Miscellaneous is the best place to put such a topic.
These are the badges I found - http://sanshee.com/images/products/36/k ... isplay.jpg. I know that these are probably professional-grade things, and use manufacturing processes outside the grasp of an average crafter, but I figure asking won't hurt.
I eventually want to make a display set and show off the entire collection, much like http://karmada.deviantart.com/art/Pokem ... -331886275
So yeah, if anyone would be so kind as to point me in the general direction of any resources to help me get started, it would be greatly appreciated.
K
Enamel and/or resin?

Re: Enamel and/or resin?
Making the metal bit would be the hardest part by far.
You'd have to have a whole series of tools and machines at your disposal. As a result, I would suggest doing something else for the metal portion.
In the second link they're made from a resin much like vinyl. This is great when you want a copy a 3D object, or make more than one of something, but not the original.
She's made the original out of sculptey clay. This would be a perfect material to use. Its light weight, and manageable.
If you want ones made from metal, you can get solid silver clay, which you can make them out of, however this is VERY sticky, and takes some getting used to.
So, once that's made, the colour bit.
Firstly enamel is a hell on earth to deal with. Its never uniform, it dries uneven, just never use it.
Resin would be the best bet. You should do it in a very similar way to this video, but, you wouldn't be making a copy, you would just be filling in the spaces in the metalwork.
Its not a weekend project, which is why I've never done it, however I have investigated stuff like this before as I wanted a Kanto set. (I just gave in and brought one in the end).
It's quite advanced jewellery making, so I would suggest finding a forum that might be able to give you some insider tips.

You might consider talking to Fortesgospel here on the forums. Badass brass jewellery has been posted regularly in the Misc Craft Projects sub-folder and I'm sure they would share some tips with you or point you in some directions. One of their posts: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5466
Alternatively, and I'm not sure its what you're looking for, but you could look into some of the cosplay stuff- particularly Worbla which apparently is really easy to use and turns out great. A lot of the big cosplayers have shifted from Wonderflex to Worbla but both are apparently good stuff. Again, not sure if its the type of things you're looking for, but it might be worth investigating.

Oh dear lord. I didn't even know about the existence of this Worbla stuff. Or craft foam either, after I looked at that FB link for a bit.
It looks awesome, and I may revisit it if I decide to try out cosplaying - A couple years back, I got an itch to make an armor set http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... iosXBM.png, but I didn't know what materials to use, and in addition to that, I suck at these kinds of things.
I was leaning more towards sculpey and/or resin, I just figured I'd ask regarding metal and enamel. I'll check out the other links provided, thank you both.
EDIT: I'm wondering about contacting this Fortesgospel. S/he joined in '09, and only has 53 posts, so are they a regular member/still around?

Send them a private message. Most people leave the forum settings at default which will email them to say there's a message here. You can but try...Kujikiri wrote: EDIT: I'm wondering about contacting this Fortesgospel. S/he joined in '09, and only has 53 posts, so are they a regular member/still around?
