Instrument you play(ed)
i can play clarinet, tenor sax, and trumpet. the clarinet is my favorite, but i kind of had to play the other two to be part of the jazz band. clarinet doesn't necessarily translate well into jazz music.

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
I play flute and ocarina these days (both badly, still learning to be honest!)
In my younger days, I played trumpet and cornet, piano, bass, recorder and panpipes. I also tried out harmonica, viola, cello and had a very brief stint on drums!
I would love to learn the clarinet or oboe, and as I said in another thread I always wanted to learn the french horn!

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
played the clarinet and very briefly, the bass clarinet.
I quit in high school because my band teacher was an a-hole and focused more on us sounding good than encouraging individual development and the enjoyment of music which didn't work for me because I can't count time... oh well.

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
I play violin (classically trained, but mostly play Celtic fiddle) and viola. I'm just starting to get back into piano, and teaching myself Irish flute. I also play recorder and tin whistle. I'm something of a folky
I used to love playing in the school orchestras, choirs, etc because I love the way the music can come alive with a large group playing it properly. However since moving to uni I haven't really had time to commit to any, and due to a lack of transport and a bad rehearsal schedule from most I don't think I will be getting to any while I'm still studying

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
I play the Piano, Euphonium, Trombone, the recorder (I own a wood soprano and a plastic alto - I like alto the best), and I've dabbled in percussion and the trumpet. I am also a vocalist - mezzo soprano.
I was a music ed major at one point, but I realized that teaching probably wasn't for me. Especially when we had to learn the basics of all the other instruments and I tried the saxophone. I spit SO much! You think trombones are bad when they clear out their slide, but I was spitting like a rabid dog and all I could do was squeak. It was humiliating.

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
Oh, this is the thread for me.
Can I just put "all of them?"
I'll start with instruments I own: trumpet (umm... 4 of them), violin, mandolin, piano, electric bass, banjo, ukulele, baritone ukulele, baritone violin, drum set, electric guitar, didgeridoo, flute, recorder, trombone, harmonica, hmm... i think that's it
Other instruments I know how to play: french horn, euphonium, oboe, bassoon, cello, clarinet, saxophone, tuba
...yes I was a music ed major and band director, until recently returning to graduate school for computer science.
Instruments FTW.

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
I have not encountered a baritone violin before. How does it relate to a viola? Is it same size as a violin with lower tuning, or a larger instrument?

Re: Instrument you play(ed)
It's a violin with octave down strings, so it's actually a bit lower than a viola, but the proportions of a violin. The bottom 3 strings are the same pitch as a cello, so it's like a cello with a high E instead of a low C string.
I have violin transcriptions of the Bach cello suites that are fun to play on it

Flute and piccolo
I teach high school English, but I still go and kick it with the band kids at pep band and for some concerts. You can never quit being a band nerd!
