Since my square didn't fit for this year's CPQuilt, I was wondering if I can start to think of next year's one... ?
Will the rules be the same ? 16 ct aida, at least 15" x 15" piece, 96x96 pattern... ?
It it too early to discuss about the theme / pattern subjects, and to start making some new patterns ? (as there are already finished squares from this year, which will be used for next year's quilt)...
UK buddies, do you know this online shop : http://www.cross-stitch-heaven.co.uk ? I want to be sure that this time I'll get 16 ct and not 18 ct... They ship worldwide, and their DMC threads are cheaper than in french shops (0.49 € instead of 0.89 € or 0.99 €)...

Yes, the requirements will be the same for next year. Feel free to go ahead and get started, but remember, only 1 square per game. So if you start early, you run the risk of more than one person starting the same game before the sign up goes up.

I will put the sign up for next year up after I finish making this years quilts.

I've heard of it but I've never used it so I don't know how good it is!

Ok, so I think I have it figured out nicely. The first quilt will hve 20 squares and the second quilt will have 18 squares. The first quilt will have 2 Sprite Stitch logo squares (SS) and 2 Child's Play logo squares (CP). It will be 4x6. The second quilt will have 1 of each and will be 4x5. The layouts look something like this:

What do you think?

I managed to get all of the squares washed last night. Tonight is the iron and trim night. I will start laying them out tomorrow for pictures.

What does everyone think about like squares being in the same or different quilts? For example, we have a few Kirby and Mario squares. Should I separate them into different quilts, or have them all in the same quilt?

I think they should be separated, put in different quilts - more variety that way! :D

Um...I also think, for the future, that we should try and avoid doing too many squares from a series or franchise. Just to get some more variation, that's all!

Ditto! I like those layouts, I think the embroidered patches in the corners will look nice!

I agree with you mostly, but... If we have enough people that want to participate for next year and lots of people want to stitch from the same game, maybe we could have one quilt dedicated to a certain game? Like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, or another popular game. It might raise just as much (if not more) money for Child's Play if someone at the auction is a fan of the series we pick. Just an idea! :nod

I have learned we can never plan for a Mario/Zelda/FF/etc themed quilt because there will always be people that will drop out and do not finish their squares. If we get enough of one genre, I can do that, but unfortunately we can't plan for it.

I agree with you! I'd much rather see that than have one game or series taking over a more miscellaneous quilt. Especially if they have a similar look. That's what I was getting at, really! :D
If we were to get enough pieces to make a themed quilt that would be awesome and I would totally be on board for that, as I was last year. But as happened in that case, we ended up combining what we did have because so many people dropped out. Thus the reason last year's quilt was Zelda and FF plus Misc :D

I'm also wondering if next year, people should sign up for one square at a time, take on another if it's complete and so on, rather than commit to X amount of squares, in case they end up dropping some or all. That's something to think about later, though. :D
