Shrinking Woolen items

Post by Servotron »

Does anyone have any experience in shrinking things made of wool? I have a wool jumper that is a bit too big. I think I know the basics, but I don't want to shrink it too much and felt it.

Wash it in hot water, use a liquid for woollens/delicates.
You can do this in the sink or in a washing machine. If you go for the machine, put the jumper in a pillowcase or something like that, and stuff a couple of cotton bath towels in the drum too. You'll have to keep an eye on it and check the jumper regularly, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. Oh and stop before the spin cycle kicks in!
Then you should rinse the jumper in cold water (do this in the sink even if you use the machine to wash).
Um...then roll it up in a towel to get the water out after washing and then let it dry flat. You might have to stretch the jumper a bit to re-shape it.

Sorry if that's a bit disjointed, I was trying to remember what I was told about it and it sort of came back in little bits XD
Hope it's of help though!

EDIT: You should definitely get a seccond opinion on this, after thinking about it for a few minutes I'm not so sure I remembered it correctly
