DMC or Anchor?
Hi all,
Just a quick query here about which threads people use/pefer.
Iv'e been using anchor threads for the past year or so as I inherited 150+ different colour skeins when my gran passed away. However i noticed most of the designs people post the site are for dmc threads,
Is this because dmc threads are superior in some way or simply because kg-chart only deals with dmc threads?

Re: DMC or Anchor?
DMC is easy to find in America, but you have to go to specialty shops to purchase Anchor. It also costs less too. That's probably why

Re: DMC or Anchor?
And over here in Ireland it's nigh on impossible to find DMC threads. Anchor only unless you're going to order online!

Re: DMC or Anchor?
From the sales of my Thread Tracker apps I can tell you that the DMC version has sold 5 times that of the Anchor version.
Personally I'm a DMC man, Spotlight and Lincraft sell both in Aus.

Well I'm in England, so can find both really easily, however I always use DMC. They feel better I think, Anchor always feel a bit flimsy to me.

Me too, and I live not far from one of the Coats Crafts UK places...but I always prefer DMC - they give a better finish than the Anchor ones in my opinion.Lord Libidan wrote:Well I'm in England, so can find both really easily
I agree.Lord Libidan wrote:They feel better I think, Anchor always feel a bit flimsy to me.

Re: DMC or Anchor?
Thanks for the comments all I may have to consider switching to DMC as ive noticed a poor finish at times on some of my pieces, i just put this down to my stitching style but maybe its the threads.

Re: DMC or Anchor?
Ok I nipped into the local craft shop today and compared the dmc and anchor side by side and after and noticed that the dmc threads seem to have a sheen and better structure to them.
I decided to pick up skeins of black and white to compare to the anchor threads ive been using for my stormtrooper piece and i must say im astounded by the difference. It looks better because of the sheen and seems to be a lot less fraying of the sides of the fabric improving the oevrall finish. (Maybe my stitching isn'y as bad as i though after all
)
Looks like ill be selling a job lot of 200+ anchor skeins on ebay in the near future lol

Re: DMC or Anchor?
You can use them for non-cross stitch work like embroidering dish towels or friendship bracelets. Sheen really doesn't matter there!!
