That is awesome to hear! I hope that "suspension" turns into "deactivated."

Re: GUYS! This is important about our patterns!
Just noticed this thread, I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention a few things. First off, I'm glad that you guys have gotten a lot done with this person. Secondly, keep in mind that she's not the only person that's been doing this. I messaged Servotron a few months ago, there are other websites and other people selling patterns from here. Etsy had a seller that had some of Servo's Pokemon patterns. Hopefully, if we all start finding patterns that we make, we can get them taken down asap. Finally, there should be some way to make all our patterns here private for our members only. Otherwise, by hosting them publicly, we always risk having something like this happen. Any ideas?

I guess this is the same problem with spambots: how do we ensure that only humans register and not icky slimy deathballs? A registration step which doesn't require any vetting is a simple hurdle to overcome, and registration by approval puts a lot of pressure on the administration of the board.Blink190 wrote:Finally, there should be some way to make all our patterns here private for our members only. I only joined the forum after looking through the patterns. If only members could see them, then I suspect we will lose quite a few potential members. I'm all for something like a watermark, but I think we should still let everyone see what we make.

I also joined after several of my patterns searches turned up this forum. I think making them Member's Only would severely limit our intake. Maybe if we made the files password protected with a generic password like "SpriteStitch" or something? :shrug
:: Mia:: This statement is false.

Generic passwords wouldn't work. Watermarking each PDF of the page would. Just a simple transparent watermark of the Sprite Stitch logo would be our best bet.acidMiasma wrote:I also joined after several of my patterns searches turned up this forum. This would be just as tedious to accomplish though. With the Wiki being updated we should probably think about a file hosting service or to edit older posts with the newer watermarked PDFs.

True, but there are still a lot of good CAPTCHA tests out there. Something like that would help with the spambots that still come in here almost every day. A watermark is a good idea, but how many people get annoyed with seeing watermarks? And even then. whose to say that someone can't sit there and painstakingly remove the watermark? It's hard, but not impossible.RMDC wrote:I guess this is the same problem with spambots: how do we ensure that only humans register and not icky slimy deathballs? I wonder if it would be possible for the site to obtain some kind of copyright or licensing where if a pattern is found on another website, legal action could be pursued. I feel like that may be a significant deterrent to people. Or at least, you would hope so...

You know, johloh dealt with CBS for the Star Trek book. It's a possibility. Of course, CBS is really happy to license out ST as much as possible to milk the franchise for money; out of the big game studios, Sony might be the most receptive to such an agreement, but Nintendo would be quite reserved. And any licensed work would have to be created within studio specifications, and then reviewed (and altered, or at least have changes suggested) by studio editors, before they'd be willing to put their imprimatur on it.Blink190 wrote:I wonder if it would be possible for the site to obtain some kind of copyright or licensing where if a pattern is found on another website, legal action could be pursued. I'd love to do semi-canon, official work for the big studios once in a while, but I think it'd kill the freewheeling artsy commune feel we have if we used that as a primary mode of protection.

Re: GUYS! This is important about our patterns!
Just noticed this thread. I've seen a lot of patterns for sale on Etsy that are free here. I also hope I can take a pattern I helped with, that I modified further, and hope that doesn't count here.
