Need to replace entire stock!!

Post by rbaron »

Okay, so I live on a cruise ship right now, and every day I have a steward who comes in and cleans. I have a new one as of yesterday who threw away hundreds of dollars worth of thread I'd saved up. It was in a bag and looked like trash, apparently. It's incinerated now.

So my question is this...is there a good place online to buy in bulk, or would I be better off getting my family to buy from the shop back home and shipping it to me?

omg, that sucks, so so badly! I bet you were really steaming for a while!

I found one shop that sells a complete DMC set if you just want to get it over with, it is on "back order" though so I would contact them.

OMG.... That really sucks. Even worse if you had specialty threads that are more difficult to get (or discontinued).

Will they reimburse you at all? I hope so =(

Maybe getting a pretty little pull string bag or small backpack for storage? Just in case in future ;)

Do you work for the cruise line? There's got to be some kind of channel you can go through. You shouldn't have to eat the cost of someone else's mistake. If not, just string the offending steward from the yardarm.

I was quite angry for a while...I knew this forum would feel my pain! And I actually looked at that one. I'm glad you found that link too. That might be what I have to do.

We're talking to the main office about me (and my roommate, who had about 150$ worth of clothes thrown away as well) getting reimbursed from the company. That's pocket change for a multi billion dollar company. At least, I hope they'll see it that way :)

Thanks for the replies, guys!!

Glad to hear you could be getting reimbursed rbaron. And your friend too!
It's really not cool to just throw away people's things, even if it does look like trash. You can never be sure what's inside!

OH NO! I'm so sorry! I'm sure we all know how long it takes to get a good collection. I think Herrschners still sells the complete set of the regular colors, it that helps! Hopefully they will reimburse you.

If you don't mind Anchor thread I can send you heaps. I converted to DMC last year and still have heaps of un-used, untouched skeins of Anchor thread that you may have, don't even need to pay!

Throwing out a bag of floss I can kind of see but how the HELL do you throw out a bunch of clothes as well?!?! I think the cleaning crew is just lazy or bitter.

Maybe we should set up a floss donation - I know I have a pile of DMC "duplicates" that I'd be willing to thin out!

I've got a few duplicates that I'm sure I can spare. I'd be happy to donate some too!
