Re: Looking for a new anime to watch...
I must admit it's been awhile since I've watched anime, I ended up getting myself caught in the web of Asian TV dramas instead. I have been wanting to re-watch a lot of stuff, Getbackers included, but I think I know what you mean by it being like separate plots.Icelandic Hitman wrote: Getbackers to me seemed like 2 anime, there was the first 2~3 then the middle eps and then the end eps which had a plot and then all the others were almost entirely separate from it, still enjoyed it thought.
FMA its amazing that nobody has mentioned this one yet..
FMP I mentioned it.![]()
Fushigi Yuugi that takes me back...
Given the rest of the list I will have to check out Hana Yori Dango. Is it manga or anime or both?
I didn't mean to ignore you, after posting I did see FMP, but I was too lazy to correct myself.
Hana Yori Dango is an anime based off of a manga. It also has various live action adaptations by Taiwan (Meteor Garden -2 seasons 2001-2002), Japan (Hana Yori Dango -2 seasons+movie 2005-2008), Korea (Boys Before Flowers -1 season 2009), and China (Meteor Shower -2 seasons 2009-2010). I've watched the all except the second season of Meteor Shower. I just love the story and characters that much.
I would always go for subs. The only exceptions were things I first started watching on TV like Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball series, and Inuyasha. I think it is a matter of getting used to how things sound. If you're used to the English dubs, then the original Japanese may sound weird. But I think it is also the same the other way around too. I really couldn't stand watching Bleach or Naruto with the dubs. And plus, I think anything where they call out the name of an attack just sounds so much better in Japanese haha.Ally wrote:Some great sounding stuff in these lists! How are the dubs? Or am I better off watching it in Japanese with the subtitles on?

I agree with subs all the way - though I have to say that the Fruits Basket crew really did try hard, and I actually thought Kyo was better in English than Japanese.

I agree with the subs problem while stitching, its just to hard! Thats one of the reasons I mentioned Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, the japanese director (Shinshiro Watanabe) actually got involved with the english dubs and helped select the cast. He even reccomended watching Bebop in English over Japanese

I'll definitely have to check out 'Cowboy Bebop' also, sounds great. Has anyone watched 'Black Butler' or 'Gosick'?
I'm not even going to bother trying to stitch while watching these, sounds WAY too hard!

We tried watching Cowboy Bebop in English after we had seen it in Japanese but the voices just sounded so different that I couldn't get used to it. We ended up turning the subtitles back on again!

Re: Looking for a new anime to watch...
Just read about a new anime called ‘Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de’. Apparently it uses the rivalry between Sega and Nintendo in the 90s as the basis of a fantasy setting, which sounds awesome! The story re-imagines the real-life console console-wars as a fantasy tale. The Segua Kingdom is locked in an age old war with the Ninterudo Empire for dominance of the land of Consume. Segua now finds itself on the defensive, but an unlikely hero has risen in the form of Gear, a boy who brags about his breakneck speed. Gear helps turn the tide of war…

I highly recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. And that's one where the English dub is actually pretty good.
I also enjoyed Trigun quite a bit.
I saw someone mention Cyborg 009, which is also good.
Baccano!
Samurai 7
I recently started watching Samurai Champloo and it's definitely worth watching.
If I think of some more later I'll let you know!

Re: Looking for a new anime to watch...
Too tired and too lazy to look and see if these are mentioned . . .
Accel World - on Hulu Plus (don't know about just Hulu) and is a 5 out of 5 stars from me (rare rating!)
Also
Sword Art Online - Crunchyroll
Both are based on Light Novels (think short chapter books with anime/manga illustrations) written by the same author, set in the same universe, SAO comes before Accel. Although I have yet to find out how they're connected. Accel world is all finished, 24 episodes, and SAO just finished its first season - with promises of a second!
I am TOTALLY obsessed with these right now. Also, if you like reading the books are all under 300 pages so y'know not terribly heavy reading. There are translations online.
