DMC threads are colourfast (some of the other brands I have in my box are too). I've never had em run on me when I hand wash - I use a little bit of liquid detergent for delicates and it always comes out looking fine :)

Just a couple questions here:
1.) When you iron cross stitchings, do you use steam? (If so, how much?)
2.) Do you iron both sides?
3.) Is there a tutorial for handwashing works that says when to do what and for how long?

Thanks for the help!

1. I never use steam and I don't think it recommended.
2. I do iron both sides through a towel.
3. As for a tutorial, I'll tell you what I do personally. The tutorial I learned from, I can't seem to find right now.

a) Soak in cold water with a very small amount (one or two drops) of dish soap up to six hours. It depends on how dirty your piece is. Check it every hour or so.
b) Place onto a towel and let it air dry (don't wring it out).
c) When it is still somewhat damp (after one and a half hours or so) iron both sides through a towel on a medium-high setting.

If there is some fabric that doesn't have stitching, I iron it directly if there are still some severe wrinkles or foldlines.
Aida is cotton as well as DMC thread so you don't have to worry about colours bleeding or discolouring from the heat of the iron.
Hope this helps. =]

That helps alot!
Oh, one more thing, while the work is soaking, do you just let it sit there or do you have to swirl it around?
Also, what size tub/ how much water should I use? I have a laundry basin/sink, so I was thinking I would just use that.
Thanks!

Yep, I use a basic basin.
I use enough water so that it is submerged and I don't swish. =]

I iron before and after, I iron before to help me stitch it better. Then, after I stitch it, it has been in a hoop so I iron it again!

I have read in a few forums that it's best to wash your thread before stitching with it to remove any excess dye and avoid dye run when washing afterwards (obviously like colours together or each skein separately) - I must say that running dye would be a heartbreaker on a finished project... has this happened to anyone?
Fish, fish, my only wish!
