Adia showing through stitches

Right, how do I explain this one!
When you are making a cross stitch and you are stitching away, how do you make it so that the Adia underneath doesn't show through the picture. I noticed on the Tattoo Portal piece that you couldn't see any of the adia between each stitch and on each stitch in fact.
Anyone got any advise? Its really bugging me!

This is what I do, it's easy once you get into the habit of it.

ah railroading, how i despised learning thee! once you get the hang of it though it becomes second nature. What size fabric are you using? I find anything larger than 18ct i get a little fabric exposure, so if i have to use 14ct or 16 ct i tend to use 3 strands of floss as opposed to 2. Hope that makes some sense to you :s

Oh god the railroading -_- I stab anyway so I sort of half-railroad my way through without thinking about it. But it's a good way of ensuring your threads lie flat

^ this too.
Although recently I've been using 2 strands on 14ct and the fabric doesn't peek through much, but I'm not worried about that because after it's washed it won't do that anymore. So, to add to the ladies before me, my advice is remember to wash and iron your finished piece, as that will help too!

I've never bothered with railroading. I just use (potentially) more than sufficient strands of thread.
Best advice is, if you're using a new count you haven't used before, do a few practice stitches with varying numbers of strands. You will find the one you like the most for that project (I have done quite a few with half stitches for effect so the show through really wasn't all that important).

I've never known about Railroading until this post. I've always just used the 3 or 4 strands depending on the fabric and how I wanted the stitches to look and it's always turned out fine.

This is exactly what I would suggest. Every project, thead, and fabric are different. Just get a picture in your head how you want the stitches to look, and do some practice until you get what you want.
