Deciding what size to make it!

I've put together an image I want to stitch but I'm still deciding what size to make it!
on 14 count aida it would be 13.6cmX 6.9cm (inches: 5.4 X 2.7)
That seems a little small. So I tried doubling the pattern size and putting it on 18 aida- so the size would be 21.2cm X 10.7cm (8.3inches X 4.2) Now it seems a little big!
Here's the image:
So 1) How do you decide how big to make it?
2) What do you think of those sizes?
and 3) Do you think doubling the size so 1 pixel would equal a square of 4 cross-stitches would look as effective?
Any and all help and ideas on sizing very much appreciated!
p.s I was thinking of puttingt it on the wall

What about 16 count Aida? Falls right in the middle.

Ahh but for the 18 count one I have doubled the number of pixels in the image. So a 16 count one would either be smaller than the small one, or bigger than the big one! Hope you get what I'm saying!

Stitching a 1:1 ratio on 12 count would make a pattern 6.25 X 3.167 inches. That seems in between the two sizes you said earlier. You could also consider adding some kind of border around the design.

Yeah I wasn't sure about using 12 count, since most people I've seen talking about it seem to use 14-18. Anyone used 12 count before? Hmm I wonder how many threads I'd need!

Could I bother you for the 14-count pattern? I'd LOVE to make this.

I've never used 12 count before but wouldn't that make it look very blocky?

Ooh I'd love to make a pattern for you! I have updated my pattern a bit, so you can take your pick from the first one, or one where I added the dog. It only adds one colour

Also, I will have to make you the pattern once I get to the shop on the weekend and pick out the colours by eye (KG chart picked out some awful ones left to its own devices!)
Here is the new, improved pattern. Take your pick!
And yeah, if anyone has opinions on the 12 count, that would be hugely appreciated. I want to do this RIGHT ya know? Can you tell I'm a perfectionist?

I think you find it tends to be a matter of personal preference and how you like the final project. Personally I prefer anything with a higher thread count, but I do larger pieces. I know that the smaller the thread count gives it more of a 'cross-stitched' look.
However your project is on the smaller size so the higher count you use the smaller it's going to be.
Like I said, personal preference. If you aren't sure, pick something in the middle!

I shouldn't reply when I'm sleep deprived. LOL
