Backstitch?

Hi, I've been looking through the blog at people's creations (impressive stuff :))
I noticed that not many of the sprite based stuff seems to have used backstitch for a border. Here is a random example:

This looks great, but wouldn't it look more perfectly "blocky" with an outline? You can see the X shape around the edges.

So just wondering if there is a reason most people don't use backstitch? Or if anyone can show me some examples :)

Tee hee, I tend to think waay too hard about whatever craft I'm attempting at the time :D

But yeah let's have a discussion :D

I think most people don't use back stitching because they converted their sprites in a 1:1 ratio.
I have a projects that are not converted 1:1 and use a lot of back stitching for the details that were lost.

It's also because the programs, PC Stitch and KG Chart, don't automatically put backstitch in their patterns a lot of the time when you're converting an image. It would take a lot of time trying to manually put those lines in so if it's looks decent without, a lot of us probably won't go through the effort to add it in. If I have a kit or a pattern from a magazine that I'm working from and the backstitching is in the pattern supplied, I will definitely use backstitching as required.

I actually prefer the look of patterns without backstitch- sometimes i find the lines a bit overbearing.

Cool to hear some opinions :)
I might try doing a comparison shot of with and without backstitch and put it on the boards when I start my project :)

After all, learning is about experimenting isn't it? :D

I have a project that I have not posted yet because it's a gift for a friend - it has a lot of back stitching for a sprite-based piece. I did this to preserve details that were lost when I resized the image but also to make some parts "pop" more than others. Once I give it to her on Saturday I'll post some pictures and put a link here.

I think many people just don't want to bother to do more work after finishing the base work too :)

In my non-sprite works, I like to do backstitching, as it really makes them look waaaay nicer, in my opinion.

Although, when I do make sprite-based projects, I tend not to do use backstitch, as I like to keep the look of them being "spritey". Hope that made sense....

I'd like to see some comparison shots of sprite-based projects that are backstitched and aren't, just to see how much backstitching could improve the design.
