Cleaning Cross Stitch?

Okay, I've finished up about three projects now but I don't quite know what to do to complete it. I know you're supposed to wash it and I once read you have to iron the back but I'm kind of confused. Can anyone hep me out?

What I usually do is hand wash them in warm water with mild detergent. Then, I roll it up in a towel to get the excess water out, and then lay it out flat between 2 towels (or just one folded over).
After it's completely dried, iron it upside, but don't push too hard, otherwise your stitches will become all flat.
Hope that helps.

I was in a hurry with a piece and pitched it into the dryer tied inside a pillow. Worked quite nicely, but it didn't give the "even / flat" look you get from the iron.

I reckon so. I use a cheapy steam iron (I only use the steam when I iron before I sew though) that I've had for about 15 years and it still does the justice lol. I don't think you need flashy gizmos and jet powered whizzers etc just to iron a bit of cotton
You could try going to tescos or argos and getting the cheapest iron possible (I know they both do a value range of stuff like that)
