Hole in aida ;_;

Hey all...I have a problem and I was hoping some of you could help me out.

I'm working on a cross stitch for the craft swap, and today I found a hole in the aida that wasn't there before. It was in an already stitched area so the stitches there have come loose, enabling me to see the hole clearly. Basically it looks like the weaved threads have snapped :shock:

Does anyone know if it's possible to make some kind of repair to aida? I had thought of attempting to use ordinary DMC floss to make a new weave, or maybe trying to use a little patch and stitching it in somehow but I don't know if these things would work. It's almost finished and the end of the swap is close so I don't have time to restart it :cray:

Any advice would be muchly appreciated!!

Ok, this is just off the top of my head, but here is an idea.

Cut a piece of matching aida that will fit inside your smallest hoop. (Hopefully you have one of the small 3-4 inch size ones)
Unpick or cut out some of the stitches around the hole so that you have some of the undamaged aida visible.
Place the small piece of aida behind your main piece and sandwich both together.
Restitch the threads you had taken out, stitching through both pieces of fabric.

The idea here is to use the back piece of fabric to make your new stitches to replace the hole. I suggested taking some of the surrounding stitches out so that the back piece is held firmly in place. You may not even need to use a piece of aida cloth, a plain piece of fabric might work if you are confident in getting the crosses equal.

I'm not sure about cutting out some of the damaged aida, it might depend how frayed it is. You might get away with stitching on top of it.

Hope this helps!

gotta agree with servotron, use another piece of aida and stitch it in place. assuming the rest of the cloth is not effected, this should fix it.

Thanks for the idea, I will definately be trying it out. The hole is fairly small so I think it should work - I will post back with how I get on :)

Yay, it worked! It's not invisible or super-amazing but it looks a hell of a lot better than it did with a hole in it - I just hope my craft swap partner can forgive me lol :)

Servotron, you are a legend mate - cheers! :good:

I'm glad it worked out reasonably well! It's a good tip to remember for later. *hugs*
