Yeah, but I don't think either is Mac compatible. :/
Mostly hibernating here. Find me on Twitter @rmdcade.
I've read a few times on here that the more experience pattern makers have both KG Chart and PC Stitch because of the little nuances in each program, and they use whichever they feel gives them a better start with their pattern, case by case. Maybe you should keep both for yourself and see what the difference between the programs are for each pattern you choose to take on.
Or you could just come to the dark side. We have patterning programs.

Mac user here. When I'm using the Mac OS, I use Pixen to draw and edit images, and Spriter to turn those images into patterns. It's dead simple (and very limited in functionality) but it does what I want it to.
However, I've also used Boot Camp to install Windows on my Mac, so I can use KG Chart too when I feel like it. If any of your friends or family have a Windows install disc lying around with a registration key (or if you're willing to spend the money on a new disc/key), you can easily enough install Windows on your Mac and use those Windows-specific programs.
I use Stitches and I really like it. It has a lot of neat features and it seems to be pretty good at picking colors. I have had to look up a couple of features using the help menu, (such as selecting all of one color and replacing it with another color). I have never used the MacStitch program, so I can't offer a comparison, but I can tell you that I am happy with Stitches.
