Sprite Stitch Board!

I am trying to do a large cross stitch, ( I have never attempted such a large one) it is on 22 ct aida, which I have also never used...I am most familiar with 14CT I tried to use two strands of embroidery floss and I had to give up and start over using 1 strand. I tried to look on line to see how many strands you are "supposed" to use for 22 ct but can't seem to find it... how many strands do you use when stitching 22 ct? I think my project is looking fine with one strand, but just looking for feedback.

I have used 1 on 22 count; 2 tends to look too bulky.

I thought it looked bulky too, and I was having a hard time seeing the actual holes in the fabric! Thanks!
