they actually have a pair of scissors that has a little hook lip at the very end of the bottom arm that you can pick up the section of thread you want to cut then it snips only that piece! I'll see if i can find a link..

Those scissors are a great idea.. but considering I'm a giant... I doubt i could even get my fingers in the slots let alone use them. lol

I want some of those scissors! ...but until I get around to that, I have a stitch ripper, similar to this one:

As to the to unpick or not to unpick thing... I generally unpick. Or use the lil stitch ripper if it's just one wrong stitch or something. However, years ago I made my mother a Libra cross stitch and managed to miss an entire column of stitches! She didn't notice until I told her though. It really bothered me at the time, but now I couldn't even tell you where the missing row was meant to be :D
I agree with the earlier sentiments: absolutely a judgement call :D

arghhhhh finding out your stitching is soo annoying!

i use the same method as everyone else has posted but im just finishing a massive picture now that was two stitches shorter than the picture i was working from!

i sat there for hours trying to workout how to fix it but thought screw it i'll do it free hand!

It came out awesome!! you'll never know its wrong :D
