Question about black fabric...

Post by Kairi-loves-Sushi »

I'm just curious if i could make a cross stitch look better on black canvas. This is how my first one looks

But what i don't like about it is that you can see the black fabric through the stitches. Is there a way to fix that? Like, is such a thing as fabric with smaller stitch squares so that when i do stitch, I can't see the canvas through the stitches? If so, what would it be called?

How many strands do you use in your thread? You could try using a larger amount of strands to make your crosses thicker, so that you can't see the fabric behind. I generally use 3 strands, but I change it up depending on what I'm doing.
You could also get a higher count fabric (the number of holes per inch) for what you call smaller stitch squares, I like 18 or 22 count for dark backgrounds.

But of course it's up to you! I hope this helps though!! :D

This is very help full. I didn't know what the "18" or "22" count meant, but now i do:) Thanks. I think my fabric is 14 or 15 count. I guess there's my problem. I'll also try the 3 stands thing, that might help b/c I can't make a run to the craft store right now. Again, thanks for the help :D

The fabric you used looks like 18 ct. to me. I've stitched on black with 2 threads, and the fabric still shows through, so you might want to use 3 or even 4, or use 22 ct. like blackmageheart said.
Good luck!
