Upon closer investigation, they sort of cheated with the pattern in that - Strong Bad's neck and legs don't actually match up in a way that would make sense in an actual project. So I decided to tweak it a little, and then I changed Homestar a bit too, and then decided to just go all out and make all the other characters in this style. Here's what I came up with:

This is all drawn with the back-stitching in mind. With such small characters, I thought that it would look better to make the facial features of some characters and some of the other details (Marzipan's dress pattern, Coach Z's emblem, the King's moustache, Homsar's name on his shirt, etc) out of straight lines rather than individual pixels.
Here's the original pattern before adding the back-stitching. Obviously it's very small, so you'll have to put it in Paint or something to enlarge it if you want to compare it to the other one.

I haven't started working on this yet, and I'm not actually sure what sort of arrangement I'll put the characters in, or what sort of background I'll give them. I was thinking either Strongbadia or a plain field with The Stick.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the characters look better (without increasing the overall size of the thing), feel free to share. Or if you need me to upload a bigger version of it (photobucket shrunk down the first image a bit, so it's hard to see exactly where the lines begin and end, especially the gray ones), then I can do that.
