What to do with extra thread

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone does anything with their extra thread ends, or just trashes them. I'm referring to the pieces that are too short to stitch with, but still have a bit of length. I began wondering this after watching a YouTube video where a woman keeps her ends in a jar through out the year. Does anyone else do this? I know its kinda of strange and most people would say "Just throw it away!", but I thought maybe someone else feels the same and does something neat with their extras. As of right now I don't keep any extras, but the video did make me wonder if anyone keeps or re-purposes theirs. I think her main purpose for keeping them was to show her viewers how much she's stitched. Also keeping them in a jar may just be a way to stay tidy while she works and prevent her from finding bits and pieces everywhere like I do.
Anyway thanks for reading my rambling and happy stitching!

I sometimes keep them, it all depends how much is left. (And if that colour has been giving me problems wth knots to not).
If I keep them I stick them in a small food container so I don't lose them, I then use them on card I make to attach embellishments and such.

I have a small plastic box for my ends, I was thinking of using it as stuffing if I ever accumulated enough. Two years and I still haven't even got halfway up the box. Interesting to see all the different colours and threads you've used though. And I could always use them for some abstract piece of art or something if I ever find myself in the mood...

I keep ends that are a couple inches in length, or longer, just in case I find that one errant symbol I missed, and I happen to have enough to do one or two stitches.
Otherwise I just toss them on the coffee table, and every couple or days or so the thread fairies come and magically take them away, never to be seen again.

I bought a ton of these little glass bottles to put my thread ends in:

They are pretty small, but for medium size projects or people who are super obsessive about conserving thread (like me) they tend to hold all the ends of a project. I then keep the bottle in a little display, so I have a memory of the project even if I give the piece away. If you're prone to having a lot of ends you could also use the tiny mason jars, but I find them too big and clunky for my taste; I'd rather just fill a few of the tiny bottles.

I keep my excess thread in a small cup by my chair. When it gets full, I will go out side and sprinkle it on the ground so birds can use it for nests. It's fun to see colorful bird nests with my thread in it!

What a cute idea! I love that the birds can make use of them - may have to copy you!

I have a big plastic bag of random threads and have every intention of using them for bookmark tassels or stuff some kind of plushie someday (read: they have been collecting dust for a REALLY long time).

I keep all the floss for each project in its own little plastic bag. The thread ends I just drop back in the bag where they can get all tangled up and tie the skeins together. Then I get to untangle them, which is oddly satisfying. Basically, I'm too lazy to do anything more with them.

I have an empty half gallon vodka bottle that I've started putting my thread scraps in. I could have sworn I got that idea from around here... But yeah, it's really fun watching the different colors pile up on top of each other. Can't wait until I get to the bright colors in my project!
