FlossBow Storage Boxes.

Post by AlisterNix »

It took me forever, but something awesome has happened. Last Black Friday Michael's had a sale, which I don't remember the likes of before, so I bought practically all the normal colors of embroidery thread and enough floss bows to mount them all.

Then came the storage process from hell. It would have taken a metric crud ton of binders and page inserts to store the 400+ colors. I found out about the storage boxes that dmc used to make, but find that they had discontinued them.

This lead me to start pursuing all corners of the web till I found yeidam.com. They are a korean cross stitch supplier. I wouldn't trust their floss, (no way to reconcile it with dmc colors) but they had storage boxes for floss bows.

It took forever for them to respond to me and send an invoice, so I could pay them. The boxes are a little over $7 each. I found the most economical mix of shipping was to buy 6 and send them ems. Unfortunately you can't ship them small package as they are either to big or to heavy. In the end I paid about $90 so they came out to about $15 each to get them.

They actually got them to me fairly quickly. It was about a week or two from when I paid. They arrived well packed and in good condition.

The website claims that each box will hold 100. In all actuality they only hold 84. There is a top tier and bottom that is divided into seven sections. Each section is supposedly going to hold seven bows. I couldn't fit more than 6 without fear of them spraying back out.

Overall I'm happy though because my collection fits in the first five boxes with only one section in the sixth being used (not pictured) giving me a box for flouresents, color varying, and metallics I still want to buy.

I hope this has been informative and useful.

What a fantastic looking stash! I'm very impressed. :good:

I've not seen floss bows before for storage, my grandma taught me to wind each skein on to a bobbin card. Might need to research other storage options, like bows.

I used to wind on bobbin cards, that's why some of my skeins have white tags. Those are the ones I bought before I converted storage methods.

I like the boughs because you end up with less kinking in the floss. That has helped me a lot with metallics. You also use the label to identify so I have had less confused colors.

I found them here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/271406654789?lpid=82
Although at Michaels I usually get them for either 1.99 or 2.99

I like them for that exact reason.

I've done the same thing but put all of mine into the pages and used 2 binders to store them all. I started using the bows because I absolutely hated winding the floss when it already came in such a neat little bundle.

Beautiful collection :)
I still wind the floss on bobbins, it takes up less space to me. Although reorganizing them by color really gets annoying when you buy 20+ new colors at a time. I look forward to having one of each colors and just being able to have them organized. I'm a bit of a neat freak when it comes to my craft things.
