Maybe this is just unique to me, but do you guys ever explain a project to a non - gamer / cross stitcher? Like right now I'm working on a 12' X 14' Super Mario Bros 2 Title Screen. And three different people at different places and times all answered the same way when I told them I was investing several dollars and days/weeks/months of my time into making this. They just said, "Why?" :swoon: I told them if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

Yeah, I pretty much get that a lot. My brother and sister are also gamers and like my stitchings, and I have a couple of friends with a casual interest in cross stitching (and other crafts) who also like to see what I've done, but it's non-gamers that I find I have to explain the whys to. I think possibly they don't understand why we would dedicate so much time, money and effort to make something. Speaking for myself (and I would hope that most people agree), one of the reasons I make things that represent my favourite games is because I love them so much, and creating something that takes time and effort (and to a lesser extent, money) is my way of showing it.

yup. its the time that makes it a labor of love. if it took 5 minutes to make it, it wouldnt be a tribute.

I've had trouble explaining any crafts to people...I've had people confused as to why I'd spend hours and hours crocheting a scarf when I could just go to the mall and buy one for $20. some people just dont get the thrill of creating something yourself.

I try to explain it in a way that they would relate too, for example, my boyfriends brother asked why I spend so much time on my crafts and I replied:

Me: I put my love and joy into making creations that express my interests, you are a huge Giants fan right?
Dave: Yeah
Me: So if I stitched you hand towels with the Giants logo for your bathroom would you enjoy them?
Dave: Oh yeah, that would be cool
Me: So that would take me about 2 days, if I spent 3 months making you a huge quilt with the Giants logo for your bed would you like that?
Dave: You can do that? That would be awesome. Would you do that?

Just make them think of the things they love and trust me, they will start having all these crafts that you can make them running through their head!
