Newbie Question

I'm pretty new to cross stitch, I've found some patterns online and have managed to complete 3 projects so far. ^_^
I have a question though, I bought two pattern kits. One had just plain aida cloth (no pattern stamped on to it) and the other had a stiffer, er, I'm not even sure what to call it, but it had the pattern stamped onto it and I can't even complete the project because it's too hard to see what goes where. And the printed guide for it on paper was just as impossible to read.
Anyway, my question is, when buying a pattern kit, what can I look for on the package to tell me if it's going to have a pattern stamped onto the cloth? Cause I definitely don't want that. Thanks! ^_^

Hi Duck and welcome to the forum! I've only purchased a couple of kits with the pattern already on them and they've always indicated that it's "Stamped" as opposed to counted.

Oh okay! Thanks
I have one more question and then I'll stop being a newb XD Do people on this board mind if you use their pattern as long as you don't claim it as your own?

Well credit, i'm sure, is always appreciated!

Everyone around here share TONS of patterns so they're here for anyone and everyone to use...especially anything in the Patterns sections (check out the masterlist). I don't spreak for everyone but if you have doubts about it feel free to ask them. Also, if you need a pattern made we have very talented pattern makers that can help you out with that...just post something in the Pattern Request thread.

i myself hate the stamped patterns on the cloth, first off because the stamped pattern isnt always stamped evenly on the cloth. Secondly, i dont even like "kits" due to the fact that the threads are jumbled together and you have to guess the colors. Plus if you screw up somehow, you might not have enough thread in the end.

I have did ac cross stitch kit and used the tread that came with it. The secend time I used a kit I decided to get a list of the thread numbers and what color was for a certain number. I used it to choose the color to use for pattern. I thought it turned out good doing it that way. You don't have to worry about running out of the thread and having to hunt for color.
