Sprite Stitch Board!

Hi
This is my first post and first of all i would like to say that sorry for my english becouse i´m from Spain .
Here is my request, I would like to do this image for my friends , they are getting married and they love the lord of the rings , i,ve tried to do the pattern by myself with a preogram but it drive me crazy so if anyone could help me would be great .


About the size I only need it to be a bit small than a Din A4 aprox . and in Aida 14

Hello Rilwen.

I have tried to do what you want with this and it doesn't work in anything smaller than about 250 x 401 count on 14 ct. Aida. I have also tried other sizes as well and none of them can make it small enough to be what you want without destroying the words and fine details. There may be a possiblity of doing it in backstitch and making it fit, but I am not sure. I will try but I can't promise it will work.

14 count aida makes smooth curved lines almost impossible unless you make the project huge. I use 16-18 count for my projects and 22 count when I need tons of detail. The words will be almost impossible in that font. But I'll work on this see what I can do.

I would almost be tempted to give up on xstitch all together on this one, get a nice white linen and embroider/backstitch/etc from a stensil or wash-offable tracing. You may need a second layer of white to stop working thread showing through

Here you go. Took a bit of wrangling but I got it looking pretty good. I didn't even touch the lettering but I think they'll be just as happy without. It's going to look fantastic. It's on 16 count cloth though, would've been a lot uglier on such big weave. It'll fit nicely into a 8x10 frame as well.

I embroidered this for the mini swap and posted it not too long ago: I really think that embroidery is the best way to do it. I was able to include all of the Elvish in the arch.

Rilwen, I agree with what Pyper said. This would look SO much better done in as an embroidery piece or backstitched from a stencil traced on the linen. A pattern like this requires percision stitching which can't be gotten with the little X's made by cross stitching, unless you use an aida cloth with very tiny squares (i.e. a higher number like 18, 20 or 22).

Do you have a tutorial on how you did yours? I would love to make one! I'm hoping there's a way to get the design onto the fabric that doesn't require me to draw anything by hand... lol

They sell iron on transfers in the store. I haven't had a chance to use them but I think you can find some that wash out. Ask at your local craft store or shop joann.comas well. You could probably use the pattern I made and eyeball where to go on reg fabric. I've been too busy with Christmas to do any embroidery or iron on stuff
