Sprite Stitch Board!

I'm going crazy. I usually use the sprites from either The Spriters Resource or The Shy Guy Kingdom.
But when I was going to do a regular Mario, from Super Mario Bros. I noticed they weren't the same.

And me who tought those pages could be trusted with good rips, and they can't even get Mario from SMB1 straight...
Which one is the correct one?
Can anyone shine a light on this?

I think it would be safe to use the original SMB sprite from Spriter's Resource. At least that's what I normally use.
