I've been trying to make a pattern out of this image but am finding macstitch leaves it too grey, I want to see what someone more experienced can do with it.

Hi all, first timer on these forums.
I've been trying to make a pattern out of this image but am finding macstitch leaves it too grey, I want to see what someone more experienced can do with it. I want to stitch it on black Aida (ideally 18ct) and have it be around the 12" x 12" size mark, but I'll happily stitch it larger if it will look good enough. I don't mind how many colours are used, but try to minimise the number where possible. I don't mind losing the pencil shading effects in the image, but I want to retain the colours. There's a couple of other illustrations by this artist I'd also like to make patterns of in future, but this is the one I like best.
