Sprite Stitch Board!

Decided that I would finally stitch this after realising I couldn't start the Super Mario World Map until after payday. been stitching for 4 days and so far it's been fun, need payday to hurry up so I can buy more threads thought!!

I keep my threads in the exact same way

These may be stupid questions, but I'll risk it. First, did you buy the aida with the reddish markings, or did you do it yourself? And how do you use the pencil outlines? Do they wash out, or after you stitch, are they un-noticable? Same for the red markings- do they go away with washing?

I was just wondering the same thing! I always grid out my chart with a colour sewing thread that is a different colour than appears in my pattern but it's a lot of work. If you can get aida that is already gridded out? Pure heaven!

Yes this is magic guide aida from DMC, it comes in 2 sizes (largest is 20"x30", I'm using half of it for this pattern)and 2 colours (white or ecru). After stitching you have to wash the design and the grid marks will dissappear, very very useful for larger projects like this! I've just used a normal HB pencil to mark out where the Mario's are so that should also come out in the wash, I machine wash my stitching most of the time so I'll be putting a little vanish stain remover soap in with my stitching to make sure it's properly clean! Hope this helps!

how do you set your machine wash? I'm always too paranoid that my weaker stitches will come loose in the wash and i'll just have a frayed mess after i take it out!

I put it on the gentlest wash cycle on my machine (generally a wool wash I think) and I put the stitching inside a delicates bag (its like a open mesh sort of bag that zips shut) the stitching will still get screwed up in the washing machine but it stopes the edges from fraying to badly, it you have a lot of looser stitches I probably wouldn't risk putting it in the machine, I'd wash by hand using warm water and a little detergent. Hope this helps

Wow, that's a really usefull way of guiding your stitches... I'll have to try and remember that. Not so much the aida-stuff, but the pencill-markings...

thanks!!! yea pencils marks just mean i dont have to keep checking the pattern which means I end up stitching more than i realise!

Pre-gridded aida? How amazing is that! I did a little research on where to get some but it seems like the only places that sell anything other than 14 and 16 are in Australia or the UK but still DMC brand. Any idea why? I really want to try it, but I enjoy 18ct and and up.
