I put the finishing touches on another needlepoint gift yesterday. Here's Blobert from the NES game A Boy and His Blob.

I am intrigued by this project-- I like how the background has a pattern. Can someone give a relative noob a link to a website that would show me how to do something similar?

OneChordWonder's blog has a tutorial for this sort of thing. For stitches, check for a stitch encylopedia in a local book store or library. I received this book for Christmas and it's very nice but out of print. Stitchopedia is pretty good too, if you can get past the ads.

Ah, thank you! Mosaic stitch-- that is what it is, and is is relatively simple to do. I have a few pieces I've followed from patterns posted here and am working on a giant plastic canvas work right now, but so far I've used only half stitches and other simple things. Thanks for the all-encompassing answer :)
