Mixed Memories of 80's Media and 70's Wallpaper

Well it's been a while since I've been on here, after the birth of my third daughter I suddenly had a lot less time to be spending posting stuff up on blogs.
I made this piece (these pieces?) about four years ago now and it's been hanging up on my wall for almost as long.
It did have a brief stint on display at the stitch and craft show in London at Mr X Stitches booth in March 2011.

The idea behind this was a combination of a few of things.
When I used to stay at my Grandparents house as a kid their paisley wallpaper used to fascinate me, it was around this time that I first played Duck Hunt.
My Mum at this time used to watch a program on tv called Coronation Street, one of the characters had three ceramic ducks flying up her wall, so I guess this is mostly about mixed memories of 80's media and 70's wallpaper.
The frames I saw and fell in love with instantly, they tied the whole project together perfectly.

I basically wanted the piece to be portal to a world beneath the surface of my wall, as though if you were to peel away the paint from my walls this alternate nostalgic reality would be underneath.

Very nice! My mom has 3 butterflies going up her breakfast nook walls, so this resonates with me as well. Projects like this make me want to branch out with my crafting.

Did you use waste canvas? Or some other method?

It's actually my fourth baba and she's four years old now, I have a son as well, he's 17 and has inherited my Megaman Beanie. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1502 (that's me in the pic btw, not my son.)
My girls are 15, almost 6 and 4.

The character was called Hilda Ogden. http://www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/images/img ... z3ckh5.jpg

And yes Kareesh, I did use waste canvas.
I just last week finished up stitching some NES Ducktales bits on a hat using the same method, I'll be posting pics up as soon as I take some.

The pieces are great on their own, but the story adds so much more! :nod
