And perhaps stupidly, I'm using a large hoop! I have no clue where to buy Q-snaps as my local Spotlight doesn't have them, but the hoop does work alright.
Wow, thanks for the info Ally! With your measurments I should be able to find myself some on ebay too. I'm always wary of low quality stuff on there but I will definitely look!
I got my Q-snaps from ebay and they're awesome for smaller projects but I find if I have a lot of excess material on the edges it's hard to work around.
Where abouts in Aus are you if you don't mind me asking? One day I swear I will find another stitcher in my area!

1. I'm from Australia too- there are lots of specialty craft stores with big enough aida- if you're in Melbourne, i can even give you some names
2. I stitched the whole thing with a Q snap frame and a few bull dog clips to gather the extra fabric to stop it getting dirty. Totally do-able!
3. I did tacking stitches to help me keep track of my counting. But I also made some mistakes, you either unpick or if its really minor, just keep going. in such a big project no one will notice that Clefairy is a bit cross-eyed!

Its just so much fun. I promised myself i wouldnt do a big project for a while but i kinda miss it so I'm jumping in again. Just ordered fabric and then I'll be ready to go!
Thanks for the encouragement chouchou! I'm a few hours out of Melb and don't get there often at all so I think the wonderful world of the interwebs is going to have to do for me!
Do you know how big you can get Q-snaps? The largest ones I can fond on ebay are only like 12 inch and that doesn't seem all that big.

I'm definitely feeling better about starting this project guys, thanks! =D

The fabric I found came from a UK based eBay store, and it's DMC branded, so the quality is really good, but if you don't find what you're looking for there try www.sewitall.com.au They're a really good Aussie stitching site and they have heaps of different aidas in pretty much every conceivable size, colour and count.
And I'm West Australian, sorry! I too would like to find stitchers in my area, but all I can find are old ladies criticising me for not stitching cottage scenes!

Oh I have heard of the sewitall site! You're a wealth of information =D

My boyfriend is in Perth working at the moment so that's almost the same thing lol!
Old ladies are the worst! My grandma doesn't understand why I waste my time stitching Pokemon magnets and stuff when I could be stitching floral arrangements lol.

Not really! Sewitall, eBay and Spotlight are the only places I ever buy my crafting stuff from (although, K-Mart has surprisingly good quality wool!).
I live a few hours south of Perth! Is your boyfriend a FIFO?
One of the last things my nanna gave me before she passed away was a cross stitch kit of a fox hunt, with the horses and the dogs and everything! I felt compelled to finish it, but it definitely wasn't my cup of tea! It's probably a good thing she isn't here to see my epic Pokemon stitch come to life! The Hogwarts crest however, I imagine she just might forgive!

Nah he's full time at Atlas Copco near the airport so at the moment I only see him about once every three months which sucks majorly! We've been together over five years though so we're dealing with it and he's coming home for good in March which I'm looking forward to.
Yeah the Hogwarts Crest doesn't look particularly nerdy to the untrained eye so I think just about anyone could appreciate it =P That's another I'd like to give a go one day!

So cool to see many more people starting! I wish you all luck and perseverance!

I'm still going steady on mine... nearing the final parts. Only 27K stitches to go :D

And zoomed in on the toppart, where i'm still working on:

Looking really good! You have left as many stitches as I have done!

Did you find it easier to stitch it that way? Going through the whole thing and doing the black? I've been going by the page and doing it but I'm considering switching it up and doing like you did! I'm just afraid I'll end up miscounting stitches.

I'm reasonably sure there's a WIP thread for the Gen II pattern (or maybe the WIP pics are in the pattern thread, I'm not 100%), but not the others just yet that I know of.
