Fire flower bag (WIP)

Post by gillianms »

I started making this bag for the last challenge, then an insane work deadline got in my way. I found a great simple tutorial for making drawstring bags, which I'm using to make a bunch of bags that will hold all my smaller crafting supplies. This one may be re-purposed so it can live somewhere other than in a box, depending on how well it turns out.

Current plan is to stitch the fire flower onto some black fabric and have that be the front. The back of the bag is black with little orange flowers on it, the top is black with a a red and orange pattern, and the lining is orange with red streaks on it.

So far I've got a bit of the fire flower and associated fireball stitched onto the black fabric, there's two more fireballs to go then it's on to the daunting task of removing all that waste canvas..... any advice?

that appears to be normal needlepoint and not cross stitch? I've been meaning to try that forever now...any tips?

It's actually cross stitch (with the fireball half-stitched), but very tight and at low resolution. I'm also meaning to try regular needlepoint though. I'll let you know how it goes...

Any chance of close up pictures of you taking out the waste canvas. I've got some that I haven't used yet and pictures would be very helpful.

Hi!

I'm new here, but 2 years ago, I stitched a Linux penguin on the back of a jacket using waste canvas. Basically, what I did was get a damp cloth, a sponge will do, not too wet, just damp, and wipe the canvas. Then get a pair of tweezers or needlenose pliers and carefully pick out each thread of waste canvas. It took me a while to get it all out, and I had to go back a few times to make sure it was all out. It's a tedious process but the results are very nice.

Good luck!
