Top 5 Favourite...Books!

Post by Ally »

I like these Top 5 things, so here is a new one...Books! A tricky one, yes! But really I'm after new stuff to read and want to know what other people have read and loved. If it makes it easier you can include full series, as I will be! Here are mine, in no particular order..
1: 'Vernon God Little' by DBC Pierre (although everything this man writes is brilliant!)
2: 'Choke' by Chuck Palahnuik (again, a Mastermind! I have pretty much everything he has written!)
3: 'The Chronicles of Narnia' by CS Lewis (I re-read these often, they are lovely books!)
4: 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde (I have a soft spot for old Gothic Lit! 'Dracula' was an awesome read too!)
5: 'Wicked' by Gregory Maguire (loved the musical, but the book is better! Too bad the other 3 books in the series were such a disappointment!)

There are others, I also love musical biographies and the like, but off the top of my head, those are my favourite books at the moment!

I've never really been a big reader; growing up I preferred video games (surprise, surprise.) Now that I've gotten older though, I've really enjoyed the few things I've found.

1. Harry Potter series. Have to do it. I have all 7 audio books in my car and listen through all of them once or twice a year during my commute.
2. Ender's Game series. This was really my reintroduction to reading a few years ago. I read all 8 (I think?) books within a month or two.
3. The Hunger Games
4. I also enjoy John Green books, so I'll put Looking for Alaska
5. The Giver by Lois Lowry. I first read this in 4th grade and it had a huge impact on me. I read it again recently and it didn't seem as impressive, but it still makes my list.

Nothing earth-shattering here, but just my bit to share.

1. John Dies At The End by David Wong (sequel coming very soon: "This Book Is Full Of Spiders - Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It")
2. Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett
3. The Unicorn Quest by John Lee
4. The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
5. Anything by H.P. Lovecraft but especially The Shadow Over Innsmouth

I could go on forever but I'm hungry and I have stuff to do! :D

1 - Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (did it at school and loved it ever since)
2 - The Portrait of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
3 - The Colour Purple by Alice Walker
4 - Anything by M C Beaton (I've loved all the Hamish MacBeth and Agatha Raisin books and am working my way through all the others - a fab light read!)
5 - The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse by Robert Rankin (and pretty much anything by Robert Rankin - very funny writer!)

I love reading and always have a book on the go. I'm even worse now I have a Kindle as I can easily take my book where ever I go!

1- Les Oubliés de Vulcain - Danielle Martinigol
2 - Ella Enchanted - Gail Carson Levine (and anything from Gail Carson Levine: she's a genius!)
3 - La Sorcière de la rue Mouffetard, et autres contes de la rue Broca - Pierre Gripari (and anything from Pierre Gripari. Someone HAS to translate his books!)
4 - Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
5 - Lord of the Rings - John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

There's also R. Carver, T. Williams, Shakespeare, Rimbaud, Wilde... but that would be more than 5...

I've always loved reading and my list of favs could probably be a lot longer and stretch all the way back to my childhood. But I think I can manage to restrict myself to a short list from the current rotation of favorite go to books.

1. Ender's Game (I've read the 4 Ender and 4 Shadow novels countless times and I'm now enjoying the prequels, shorts and graphic novel versions as available. I'm actually working my way through them right now. :yahoo: )
2. Enchantment - Orson Scott Card (I pretty much love most of his books)
3. Harry Potter (Because I wish I knew more magic than making my kids' Halloween candy disappear overnight :wiz )
4. The Looking Glass Wars series. - Frank Beddor (The Hatter M comics have a great storyline.)
5. Divergent - Veronica Roth (I like Tris just a bit more than Katniss. She's slightly less angsty on the boyfriend front.)

My favorite book ever is
1. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier (It's sooooo good.)
After that it's easier to list authors than specific books because most of them write series:
2. Orson Scott Card (He seems to be popular among us. I got to see him speak once. It was great.)
3. Agatha Christie
4. Isaac Asimov
5. Kurt Vonnegut

Rather then list individual book titles, here's a list of some of my favorite series.

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
Heralds of Valdemer by Mercedes Lackey
The Elenium By David Eddings
Mercy Thompson Books by Patricia Briggs
Kate Daniels Books by Ilona Andrews
