I make jewelry and I've always told myself I'm going to get into polymer clay - and now I think I've found my inspiration in butterfly chrysalis' and caterpillars. And I have you Digitlanalog to thank for it!

I do hope you catch the next one 'changing clothes'!

Wow. That link is just wow.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to put the project off until next year - I've got this craft fair to work for, and then Christmas. I'm planning on getting sculpey after Christmas and fiddling around with it next year. And one of my projects will be Monarch chrysalis inspired. I'm not sure I'll copy the chrysalis exactly . . . ok I'm just babbling now, but I wanna see what you make Digitl!

This thread is just too cool! ^_^

It seemed the closest thing to it, they're seen between May to September, and it looks similar to your pic.

I wouldn't know truly, but even though I would never hold one (I have a horrible fear of bugs) I love looking at them. So beautiful!
Thanks m4pl3g1rl, and Digitlanalog - Hubby said he thought it was a moth too. Will try posting on the site you suggest and see if somebody can confirm for def.

Digitlanalog - hope you see the change of clothes in your other little dude today! Keep the pics coming - they are fab!

I have tried to identify it but can't seem to find the same pic on the net and my wildlife book is rubbish!!! I tried the site referenced previously but they are for the USA and I am in the UK. If anybody can tell me what it is I'd be grateful for the :help:
Yes, Bug Guide is focused on North America and it's great if you live there! I don't know if this site is as good but it's endorsed by the Amateur Entomologists' Society (UK based): http://www.ispot.org.uk/. There are likely thousands, if not hundred of thousands, of species to pick through and only an expert will really be able to ID a "brown, fuzzy larva" but getting it to family or subfamily should be pretty easy. And oh course, having pictures of both an adult and larva is really helpful too.

Also - the difference between "moth" and a "butterfly" is superficial - scientists don't distinguish between the two, they are all just "lepidoptera."
