Really? You all liked Loki in Avengers? Really? Not Thor where he was clearly better but still not great?

Just don't agree there I'm afraid. He's ho-hum and predictable in Avengers. At least in Thor he had a little character.

1.) Venom from Spider-Man (... though I have to say he's more interesting as an anti-hero than a villain)
2.) Ganon (specifically from Wind Waker!)
3.) Kai Winn Adami from DS9
4.) Pokey from Earthbound / Mother 2
5.) Aeris from Final Fantasy VII

I was totally with you on number 2 but number 5 made me go "Whaaaaa!?!?!"
I'm not an Aeris fan, but she's no villain. Kind of annoying sure, but evil? Nah...
Sephiroth was the first baddy that made me start swearing (in front of my mother no less), so he is in my top 5 though I don't care enough to rank him more precisely than that.

Wouldn't have classed her as a baddy, just bad. As in, rubbish. Useless character she is. Even if you put in all the work to get Great Gospel and enable her to learn it, you can use it for the shortest time before she gets turned into a Cetra Kebab.

But I do enjoy your choices RMDC. Kai Winn Adami always got on my nerves something terrible. I enjoyed her final excursion into the fire caves

I didn't really like the 'Thor' movie. I thought it felt really rushed and just kinda...ended! Plus I thought it was just plain weird that they cast Natalie Portman in it. Loki was a standout character to me in 'Thor', and in 'The Avengers'.

Loki was a standout character to me in 'Thor', and in 'The Avengers'.

I can see standout character in Thor, but I still don't think he's evil or awesome enough to warrant top 5. Almost any other baddie in the Marvel Universe would seem a better choice than him. He's manipulated by others!

I have a theory that the whole thing - Jenova's awakening, Hojo's manipulations - all came about because of Aeris's conscious connection to Holy. It doesn't have to make sense.

That being said, I'm firmly in the 'Loki was meh' camp. Sorry - he felt like a spoiled, petty, pampered, rich boy who was throwing a tantrum because Thor borrowed a toy without asking. While the actor did a fantastic job with what he was given, the part was less than threatening and more like an irritant. C'mon, he totally got played by Black Widow.
