Is it unusual for me to be so excited that Walmart is bringing back its cross stitching supplies? I work for said Big Box, and our fabrics/crafts supervisor was talking about the new section she's putting out soon that has embroidery floss...It'll be cheaper than Hobby Lobby, plus employee discount, plus being able to walk 20 feet from my work area to cross stitching heaven! This will be one great cross-stitching summer.
(oh, and the supervisor mentioned new paints, fabrics, supplies...the fabrics/crafts section is just about going to double at our store)
I'm looking forward to it myself. While I really dislike Walmart - both as a company and going into the stores - my nearest craft store is the better part of an hour away otherwise.
Mostly hibernating here. Find me on Twitter @rmdcade.
I was so upset when they got rid of their cross stitch section years ago, and if they are all bringing it back, that would make me so very very happy. I do love hobby lobby, but it makes it tough when I need to get my cross stitch fix in on a Sunday... or at 3 a.m....
Current Projects: Crocheting stuff, writing letters, cross stitching stuff oh, and making beer!
The other month I saw that the Walmart near me had some cross stitch kits. I went a little further next to the kits I noticed that they had some dmc thread. They didn't have all the thread there. Yesterday I went in there and noticed they had a couple of material in clear plastic container things. It is in the area where the greeting cards are at and party supplies are at. I am hoping maybe they might put all the thread in there. Walmart is a little closer than Joann's Fabric store.
Ha, I envy places that don't have Walmarts....it's convenient, but.....well, let's not go there....
I am guessing the new stuff will be at most Walmarts. I love Hobby Lobby too, but it's probably better for me to pick up a few skeins after work (or like Philpepe said--on Sunday!), because every time I go to Hobby Lobby for a couple of threads, I walk out with $20 of other things...I dislike WM enough to get in and out
I've been off for a few days, but now I'm excited to go back and see what's there based on what you guys have already seen out!
The walmart by me recently got cross stitch stuff too. I did a double take when I saw it and just stared for a minute like a goof. They had about 4 rows of floss, some kits, the dmc thread color thingy, some flexi hoops aida cloth in sizes 14 and 18, floss bobbins, embroidery scissors and a few other things. The thread is only 30 cents there vs 40 cents at hobby lobby plus its closer. In general the craft section as a whole has gotten more stuff.
I need to check our WM when I get home. I recently commented on Michael's website that I was disappointed to see their stock of cross stitching supplies disappearing both in store and online and they e-mailed me back. Here's what they said:
Thank you for contacting us. As the leading retailer in the craft industry,
it is always important for us to listen to our customers. We listen to
their opinions, to their requests & we listen to their spending habits.
In order to continue to offer the newness that our customers expect, it is
sometimes necessary to make some difficult decisions. At this time we have
started to eliminate the cross stitch. It was a very difficult decision.
Makes me sad as that means I'm going to probably go online to do my cross stitching shopping, or I might have to go over to Hobby Lobby (even though their thread is more expensive.)

This explains why I've been having such a hard time with supplies from the Michael's close by. I kept asking the manager about this, and he kept saying, "Just wait till our next shipment." Yeah, that didn't happen. I'll be fine with it as long as my WM starts carrying.
And by "carrying" I mean carrying cross stitching supplies. Not drugs.
