Well I certainly didn't mean to cause any offense, just pointing out that I was (pleasantly) surprised to find how many crafty guys there were out there. And I didn't even know there was a geek craft community until recently, so chalk that up as another pleasant surprise.Gamer Grrlz wrote:I frankly don't understand why anyone says that in the first place, given how many of the more visible members in the geek craft community are guys. I think a lot of people assume that cross stitch and other so-called "domestic arts" are female hobbies (because in the past they probably were). At the same time, a lot of people assume that only men are interested in video games.
That's why I like Sprite Stitch so much...we all love the same things - crafts and video games - regardless of our gender. And it's awesome!!!
Back to the thread topic, I'm 29 and female
And I think it's great that young people like Innamode and mariio and all the rest are stitching! And getting involved in communities like this

I'm 25, and female. I never really thought about whether members were male or female, i just bundled everyone under the banner of 'crafters', but it is nice to have such a mixed group on the forum- makes for very varied projects!

I'm 23 years old. And male.
My parents seem to think it's weird I'm cross stitching. Well, the effect has worn ff by now, but in the beginning they were constantly asking me if it relaxed me and things like that. While my sister, who is a girl (obviously) stitches a lot and they never question her reasons.
But I'm not absolutely sure it's because I'm male, so yeah.

I feel lucky that sewing was considered a basic skill in my family. My grandmother taught all of us to do it, even my male cousins, who actually really loved it.
I'm about to turn 27 btw.

Re: How old is everyone?
yikes. im scared of age threads now...
I turned 30 a week and a half ago.
there are a lot of guys in the crafting community these days. but...even on a video game themed craft site, which you would think would have more males than most craft sites, this site is approx. 25% male, and 75% female. so we are still badly outnumbered. I would bet other sites that arent video game specific like craftster have even more lospided %s...

I'm 29 and female and though I've been into games my whole life and was introduced to them by a female, it was a guy who taught me how to cross stitch
