Anyone else had an email like this?

Post by blackmageheart »

This one's for the people with blogs and websites, mainly!

I got an email on 22nd Nov from one Anna Szymczak asking me to donate a cross stitch pattern to a crafting appeal (beginning in January) for a charity called Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children - a UK charity that is fairly well known here. The appeal will involve crafters making something and selling it, donating the money to the charity, or make something and send it to the charity so they can sell it.
It seems like a copy/paste job with my blog title inserted in the "Hello ," line. I'm naturally cynical so I'm having a hard time believing this request is based on my so-called talent, lol. But I'm gonna email her back anyway to get some more information!

Will update when I know more. :)

Even if it is an actual fundraiser for a site for the charity, it is pretty crappy of them to approach you and ask you to donate something out of the blue. I have never heard of a charity doing that. If they have a fundraiser like this, then they would either put it on their webpage and send you the link, or something similar.

I got something like that before about some "art show" that they wanted me to send a quilt to in order to raise money for charity. I couldn't find anything about it on line though, so when I responded back asking for the details and a referral they never responded.

I had an email like this before. They were asking for a pattern. I emailed back asking a few questions and they never responded.
I'd check them out, to see if they're genuine if you want to do it. Considering its a well known charity I'd send them an email via their contact page on their website to see if its something they do.

I did get my google goggles on and did find the woman the email was supposed to be from and she does work in PR for the Newlife charity, but that doesn't really tell you anything. They also do have craft-based campaigns (they currently have a knitting one) but this next one's not listed anywhere.

I've already replied to the mail I got but I think I'll have a poke around on the charity's website, see if there's someone I can speak to and get some confirmation and information!
