Some Canadian help needed

Post by stitchingmama »

I live in a small city in Canada & I need some help acquiring supplies. We have a Michael's but the cross stitch section is hidden in the back of the store & half of the tags have no product. Should I order from eBay or is there some place better? I want coloured Aida & maybe glow in the dark blending filament (they might have it at Michael's). I found a recommended site in the forums but I don't think they're in business anymore (crosscanadastitching)?

A quick Google search lead me to a list of Canadian stores - I bet a couple of them sell online ;)
(I just cut and pasted the list i have no idea where these places are).

Golden Threads Imports, Hamilton: http://www.gthreads.com/

The Stitcher's Place, Cambridge: http://www.stitchersplace.com/pages/home.htm

Timeless Treasures, London: http://www.ttreasures.ca/main.html

Thread & Eye, London: http://www.threadneye.com/

The Herrschners store is in Kitchener, not Toronto: http://www.herrschners.ca/retailstore.aspx

And Gitta's in Mississauga: http://www.gittas.com/

Can you be more specific about where you live? I live in Toronto and there's another store called Mary Maxim that has a bunch of fabric/floss and some kits. They also have a much larger store in Paris, Ontario with a very large cross-stitch section. That's where I go for the majority of my supplies, since Michaels has started to fail me. If you are in Southern Ontario and are looking more for fabric, you might want to try going to the Creativ Festival in Toronto in a couple of weeks. There's usually a booth filled with fabrics of all sizes and colours. There will also be a few booths that carry different kits that are very pretty.

All the stores that Kuja listed are in Ontario so if you live in another province, you might want to check which of those stores do online ordering. Hey...I didn't know there was a store in Cambridge! That's my homecity! :) There used to be one in Cambridge called the Midnight Stitcher. It was really cute but latest less than 6 months. :(

Hey that one's down the street from me! I keep meaning to go, but it's only open during the week when I'm at work or on Saturdays when the boyfriend always wants to do something.

So random! I spent my first 24 years in that city. If that place were open or if I knew it was there when I was still living at home, I might just have enough projects to last me to death, instead of just to retirement! :)

I live in Moncton, New Brunswick, so my options are limited. I do have a brother in Saint John so I go there frequently.

hmmm...I'm not sure how many east coast Canadians we have on here. Your best bet would probably be going with one of the online stores. I know a lot of people here do order from ebay and I've been able to find good aida on there before but I always like going into a store over ordering supplies online. I don't know...there's something about it!

I always try to buy local when possible or order through a local store too. I may have to explore the local fabric/hobby shops but they tend to be way over priced.

I live in a small town in Newfoundland, and I've found the same problem. I usually buy my floss and small supplies from the local sewing shop, but rely on the internet for larger purchases (especially plastic canvas). I've used both http://www.herrschners.ca/ and http://www.marymaxim.ca/ and have no complaints with either.
