How do you keep your threads

Post by lauram340 »

Hi there
I was wondernig how does everyone keep their threads?
My mum used to have this book of them that she used and it was the best thing I have ever seen but you can't seem to get them anymore.
I am currently using the cardboard bobbins in a carry case but I really dont like it
I was wondering what other people used that was a slightly better way, so everything didnt get tangled up

The threads I'm using for my current project I carry in little zip-lock bags in a shoebox! But my other threads I also keep on cardboard bobbins in a case. I do like the idea of a book, though. Perhaps you could customise a photo album or something.

I store mine on stitchbows in plastic wallets in my sewing bag. It's got to the point where not all the wallets will fit in the bag, so I've put the rest in a folder.

I keep my DMC set on bobbins in DMC boxes, duplicates in a small set of drawers, and special threads on stitchbows in a DMC travel bag :D

My mom also used to have a book, so I made my own binder(s). You can buy the pages for them, but they are a bit hard to find. I think my mom used to use slide projector slide sheets, but those would be hard to find now, too!

http://www.joann.com/westex-floss-keeper/xprd74657/ is where I get the floss pages.

They come with cardboard or plastic bobbins, but in my experience, if you wind a whole skein on them, the bobbins are too small so they just pop out of the plastic sleeves. So instead, I've cut my own bobbins out of posterboard that are as big as the plastic pockets are. It works well for me!

I've bought the stitchbows and wallets from a few different places online - http://www.sewandso.co.uk was the last place I bought them from (http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Pack ... GC001.aspx and http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Stit ... 1242L.aspx, both out of stock at the moment), though I've also got them off Amazon. If you're asking about the bag, that one's trickier, since I got that as a present about 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure that this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003FBE8V8) is the same thing, except that mine is black.

At the moment my skeins are on DMC bows in plastic ziplock bags until I put them in a folder like Timespace. I have most of the sleeves already, just still undecided on how to organise them. I think the DMC family looks pretty, but a pain to find items, but less shuffling when I want to add new colours (unless I leave spaces for all of them and pray not too many new colours added *sighs*).

I prefer the bows over the bobbins because it irked me that there were more crimps in the threads. But the bows have their own problems (still prefer though)

I have a similar case to Timespace. I have the same one (in cream), and also the mini one (picture with current project in). I only keep the active skeins for the projects in them though. My mum has the DMC stitch bow roll (also cream).

All fits nice and snug in the back pocket of my work bag (just) to try and do on train.

I keep mine on cardboard bobbins in a craft storage case. If I have to travel I just take the supplies I need and use a sewing box I bought at Walmart years ago. But then I am rather unorganized. I love seeing how meticulous and organized all of you are!
