Metric system question...

Well, I was just thinking about this in the car the other day. If 14 count Aida is 14 squares per inch...is there another measurement for those of you who use the metric system? Just curious.

Nope, we have to convert if we want to know the final size :
14 ct aida = 5,51 sts / cm
16 ct aida = 6,30 sts / cm , etc.
Sellers name aida clothes using your system : 14 ct, 16 ct...

In the UK (particularly those of us that are a little older) we tend to use both imperial and metric anyway. But as Bete says, aida is sold in the same counts like 14 and 16 etc. Now that I think about it, here a lot of fabric is still sold in imperial measurements (fat quarters in particular, but also in yards etc.)

It's not really a problem, since most rulers and measuring tapes have both scales on em!

Just gotta love our hybrid imperial/metric system in the uk. Short distances i know in cm/metres and long distances in miles

Metric needs the equivalent of an inch, its a very handy scale. Counting aida with cm is too small a block, you kind of need to count several cm worth of holes and divide to get a decent feel for fabric count.

I'm looking foreward to the day recipes stop being mostly in imperial, I often have no idea what unit they are using, let alone the conversion factors :p
