Confused Noob - badges, abbreviations...

Post by CraftSomeShip »

How do you earn badges? What are some of the most common forum abbreviations? (Quite typically, I didn't copy any when I saw them  ) What kind of doc. is sth? Is there a site search bar? I will probably come up with more questions but thats all I got for now. :pika
Edit:
At the end of a pattern it lists the number of colours you need but how can you tell how many skeins of thread you need? What does the count mean? Number of stitches?

The List of Possible Forum Badges describes them pretty well.

.sth is KG Chart's native format. KG Chart is a freeware pattern creation package (or it was free until they took down the free version; luckily our friend Aridesh saved a copy). The other primary format you'll see here is .pat, PC Stitch's format. PC Stitch is also freeware.

The site search bar is in the upper right, in the title header.

I know that PC Stitch has an option to include the number of skeins necessary for each color on a pattern's information page; I've forgotten if KG Chart has the same function. The count is indeed the number of stitches per inch; e.g. a ten-inch row on 14 count will have about 140 stitches (I say "about" because there's generally a little plus-or-minus depending on the quality and condition of the fabric).

If you come across any of those pesky undefined abbreviations, drop them in the thread and we'll clear it up for you.

Ask all the questions you can! The community has also gathered a brief collection of guides in our Techniques / Guides forum, and several of the threads in that forum ask questions you may not have thought about asking yet. It's worth a peek.

Welcome aboard! :nod
